"If she had told her teacher they'd have called her a whore. Tell the police? They lock you up and rape you." Atefeh first appeared in court, accused of having sex with an unmarried man at 14. Over the next two years she was accused of the same crime with different men.
They denied it and were sentenced to the lash and then released. But Atefeh pleaded guilty and each time received 100 lashes and a prison term. Mina said: "Atefeh sometimes talked about what these 'moral' Islamic policemen did to her while she was in jail. She still had nightmares about that. Atefeh said her mood swings made it easy for men to take advantage of her, and that most of her lovers were in the security force."
Two of them were members of the anti-vice militia. They encouraged other men to sign statements saying Atefeh had engaged in vice, and even claimed she had AIDS.
It was when Atefeh appeared before Judge Rezaii for a fourth time that she lost her temper - and also her life. In a rage she tore off her hi jab - a headscarf - and told the judge she had been raped and it was his duty to punish her tormentors, not their victim.
Rezaii told her she would hang for her "sharp tongue" and that he would put the noose around her neck himself. It became a personal crusade as he travelled to Tehran and convinced the Supreme Court to uphold his verdict.

Have you got a decent source for that story? The sunday mirror is pretty much the same as the news of the screws.
This bit did stand out to me:
quote:
But Judge Haji Rezaii was determined she should hang, regardless of the rules of international law which say only adults over 18 can be executed, and that the courts have a duty to children and the mentally ill.
Don't you lot still execute kids or have you stopped doing that now?

Yeah, but you make up with quantity what you lack in freshness.

randman,
This seems a strange subject coming from someone who's religious book advocates death by stoning for something as trivial as adultery.

I thought the same thing, Mark.
Many years ago I left the employ of an East Asian government because they demanded that I copyedit the translation of a "letter to the editor" in that nation's chief English language newspaper, a letter that supported the House of Saud's beheading of a princess and a commoner because of their love affair.
I rejected Christianity's mindless violence long before I had heard of Islam's. Grown-up people learn that bad people come in all colors, and so abandon racism; grown-ups know that both good and bad claim the imprimatur of God, and so reject all holy writs for death and destruction. Fools, fanatics, and fascists believe their warrants are true, and no one else's.
It is one of the great ironies of American history--but a fulfillment of Christianity--that the evangelical right has become the political voice of bloodletting and death.

God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, ”Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.’

for fornication?
Are you kidding?
I think some states probably execute "kids" that are 18. I don't think younger folks are subject to execution, but maybe someone else knows, but regardless, it's for first degree murder, not being raped or for fornication.
The jihadis will execute or sometimes just punish women severely for being raped.

Deut 22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

Yes, a truly shocking example of religious extremism combined with a healthly dose of utter vindictiveness on the part of Rezaii.
But this isn't going to help you prove that Islam is entirely evil. The Tehran regime is, after all, widely hated by Iranian populace. The true evil lies with the self-serving tyrants who appoint themselves as Allah's judges on Earth.

Mark 24 says it trivial. God says its not. Who is right I wonder?
