Have just read this two-parter twice in a row and about to start again.
It's by James Ellroy, and is in the same vein as LA Confidential.
It follows three sideline participants in some very famous assasinations thru' the cold war era.
The pacing is so fast it can be offputting at first but it's well worth it. Another clever thing is that it robs from documented reality to build the setting, which is huge. There are so many actual events, real conversations, and people woven thru' it, it's almost difficult to believe the author doesn't
know something.
Thought provoking and totally riveting imo.
Oh yeah, and the foulest language you've ever seen in print
