Anyone playing?
Is this another conspiracy of Evos to shove evolution down everyones throat?
Spore
wiki writes:
Spore is a multi-genre "massively single-player online game"[5][6] developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation.
Consists of 5 main stages of gameplay:
1. Cell Phase-Similar to an open board Pac-Man using a single cell
2. Creature Phase-Your single celled organism has evolved legs and now has a 3D world to explore where you interact with other creatures.
3. Tribal Phase-Your creature has evolved enough intelligence and begins to divide labor among its members. This is the start of a Real-Time Stategy Game.
4. Civilization Phase: This phase is similar to Sim city. Your goal is to conquer the whole planet. You customize buildings, vehicles, ect.
5. Space Phase: Your race of creatures learn space travel and can go out and conquer other worlds.
At every phase there is content that was designed by other players that was loaded into your game via web access.

The game has nothing to do with evolution.
You earn "DNA points", with these you can buy parts for your creature in an editor. You can add a body part or organ here or there, resize your creature or just specific parts, and remove them again with full return of used DNA points.
So it's actually ID/creationism.

I was just kidding about the conspiracy. It is closer to ID than evolution
The game is great fun. The creatures are incredibly customizable. Their movement and actions are dictated by parts and part locations. My only complaint with it is the limited installs and the psuedo-spyware securerom that is installed on your computer.

From what I've read, Spore has been drastically dumbed down. Evolution really doesn't actually matter. Meaning, extra legs don't make you run faster. Most of it is just cosmetic.
Furthermore, Spore has been effectively killed for most serious gamers due to the anti-piracy measures EA put in place. Essentially Spore punishes those who legally buy it. Messed up isn't it?
EA can rot in hell.

EA can rot in hell.
That.
Besides that, I bought the game for my daughter and myself to play. Right now it is a tool to let average Joe create (see what I did there?) computer entities that you can animate, which is pretty cool.

We never seem to acknowledge that we have been wrong in the past, and so might be wrong in the future. Instead, each generation writes off earlier errors as the result of bad thinking by less able minds-and then confidently embarks on fresh errors of its own. --Michael Crichton

but considering what it was originally before EA gobbled up Maxis? Sad.
Furthermore the ridiculous DRM on Spore more or less makes the game a rental. As soon as EA's Spore authentication servers go down the game cannot be played without a hack.
