Avatars around here seem to be slanted toward cats, the most famous of which are Percy's "Bill the Cat" and Admins "Catbert".
I've wondered if the evo side tends to be "cat people", and the creo side, "dog people".
Me - Evo side - 2 cats. An older Calico, named "Hiss" (but often known as "Fuzzbrain"), and a young gray Tabby, called "Keeper" at the animal shelter, but renamed "Stripe" by me.

Evo side, one cat, one dog. I think I'm more of a dog person, I've had a weimeraner and two collies.
My current cat, Kaeo, is a siamese mix I got at the animal shelter. She's a sweetheart but for some reason she never wants to go outside. She has a good life, though; she adores me and the dog.
My current dog is the first small dog I've ever owned and he's the love of my life: a hairless Chinese Crested. Here's a picture of the standard; my dog looks almost identical but his ears aren't quite so erect. He goes with me almost everywhere I go. He has more personality than any dog I've ever known, and I've known some really great dogs. He's a joy to be around. As soon as I get a digital picture of him (I plan to within the next couple weeks) I'll post his pic if anyone wants to see it.

Moose,
A dog person raises his hand. I do confess, however, the main reason I'm not both a dog AND cat person is because I'm allergic to cats. In truth I'm probably mildly allergic to dogs, too, but it's a price I'm prepared to pay....

Evo side, cat person. None of our own yet but both my wife and I are from families with two cats. My side, Boo-Boo and Suzie, and her side, Spice and Midnight.
Are there really such things as "dog people"? Aren't they really just people who aren't good enough for cats?

Oh, yes, I love horses. I had one as a teenager. I have a friend who has two appaloosas so I still get to ride once in a while. My old horse was a great jumper, I used to love jumping fences with him.
Yes, the CC does look similar to a horse. My dog, like the one in the photo, has a nice tan. That combined with his build and the fact that he has hair where a horse has mane makes him look very much like a tiny little horse.

Look left, and you will find my cat, Guinness. He rocks.
I like dogs too, but unfortunately I'm allergic to them so that kind of rules them out as an option.

evo - committed dog person my entire life. I currently have two - a golden retriever named Pumpkin (she's very Irish setter orangish, and I got her on Halloween), and a "rescued dog" which is mostly yellow lab/basset hound cross with some pit bull terrier in the woodshed somewhere. She's low like a basset, long and white like a lab, with a pit head. I call her my spare parts dog - obviously made up out of leftovers.
I loathe cats. Supercillious, arrogant, utterly indifferent flesh-covered steel springs whose only redeeming quality is their propensity for capturing and torturing small furry animal pests. Dogs have owners - cats have staff. I refuse to be subservient to a lower life form - especially one which doesn't recognize the difference.

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs.
Zhimbo and I have two cats that we adopted from the shelter as adults: Winston and Merlin.

Suitable quotes:
Dogs think "they care for me, they feed me, they shelter me - they must be gods."
Cats think "they care for me, they feed me, they shelter me - I must be a god."
"Cats look down on you, dogs look up to you, only pigs treat you as an equal" - Winston Churchill.

Young-earth evolutionist (everything evolved by natural, undirected mechanisms three weeks ago, only with the appearance of great age), dog person.
I've always loved dogs, but don't currently have one. Can't stand snarling, vicious death dogs either. Give me a happy mutt any day.
My relationships with cats have been problematic. Although I like cats, many send me instantly into a teary-eyed sneezing frenzy. I hate my girlfriend's hissing, antisocial feline beast, but (despite her apartment being coated in a half-inch of his discarded fur) at least he doesn't bother my breathing any.
regards,
Esteban "El Perrito" Hambre

Hee. Better translation: "Why the hell should I shell out good money to feed and care for an evil, self-centered, uncaring little monster who spends most of its time plotting to take over the world?" I mean, besides my two kids, that is.

Strange, I have an old calico cat as well, and young hairy grey cat.
