Tired of typing your username and password the first time you post a message in a new session? You can set your preferences (that's *preferences*, not your profile) to keep your username and password stored in cookies so you'll never have to type them again.
Click on Preferences either here or at the top right of most pages. This will take you to the preferences page. Make sure that the "Store Username and Password" field is set to "yes", then click on Submit Preferences. That's all there is to it.
Later this year we'll be changing to a login format where specifying that you want your login saved will be done by changing your profile instead of through the preferences page, which will go away. It will require that you have cookies enabled. For those concerned about privacy, both Internet Explorer and Netscape allow site-by-site enabling of cookies.

Thanks, Percy. I checked "preferences" and "yes" was already marked so I reset and submitted. Then I brought up a new window and still no saved password. I'll try rebooting and see what happens. buz

Rebooting shouldn't be necessary
I should have mentioned that even if "yes" is already selected, you still need to click on Submit Preferences to set it. It can become unset internally (it's a cookie) for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you changed computers, and of course the cookie settings on your old computer wouldn't follow. Perhaps you changed your login on your computer, which is pretty much the same thing, since your cookie settings don't follow you to your new account. Perhaps you checked "Delete Cookies" the last time you cleaned up your disk. Or maybe you told your browser to delete cookies. Perhaps you switched browsers, because each browser maintains its own cookies. Or perhaps a year went by.
The new login approach coming later this year will eliminate most of these little issues regarding username/password cookies.
