Author | Topic: Poll: Cat Person or Dog Person? - A lite topic | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Evo side, one cat, one dog. I think I'm more of a dog person, I've had a weimeraner and two collies.
My current cat, Kaeo, is a siamese mix I got at the animal shelter. She's a sweetheart but for some reason she never wants to go outside. She has a good life, though; she adores me and the dog. My current dog is the first small dog I've ever owned and he's the love of my life: a hairless Chinese Crested. Here's a picture of the standard; my dog looks almost identical but his ears aren't quite so erect. He goes with me almost everywhere I go. He has more personality than any dog I've ever known, and I've known some really great dogs. He's a joy to be around. As soon as I get a digital picture of him (I plan to within the next couple weeks) I'll post his pic if anyone wants to see it.

Oh, yes, I love horses. I had one as a teenager. I have a friend who has two appaloosas so I still get to ride once in a while. My old horse was a great jumper, I used to love jumping fences with him.
Yes, the CC does look similar to a horse. My dog, like the one in the photo, has a nice tan. That combined with his build and the fact that he has hair where a horse has mane makes him look very much like a tiny little horse.

Mr. Jack writes:
quote: Not entirely; you should consider a hairless Chinese Crested. They're rather expensive, but well worth it. Since they don't have fur, there's no dander to upset allergies and there's no shedding. It takes weeks for them to build up any noticeable odor; a bath about once a month, using human shampoo, is sufficient to keep them clean. They're easily housetrained and can even be trained to use a litter box. They are very intelligent and exceedingly loyal to their owners. Once they have formed a bond with you, they will allow you to do anything to them. This quality makes for easy grooming and no-fuss visits to the vet. They also get along well with other dogs and cats.

Yes, Percy, as I was telling Mr. Jack, at least my breed gets on quite well with cats. My cat provides him with companionship while I'm away. They're both very happy animals.
I've had collies in the past and they are also quite friendly toward cats. A rough collie is a high-maintenance pet, though.

Yeah, I had never heard of them until the early 90s when the breed was accepted into the AKC. They are absolutely the most amazing dogs I've ever encountered.
There are two varieties of Chinese Crested: hairless (which really means furless) and powderpuff. They occur together in the same litter. The powderpuffs are cute dogs, but the fur makes them like other dogs in terms of odor. These dogs want to be near you all the time. That's okay with my hairless because he doesn't stink. Fleas can't hang onto him. He sleeps on my bed and will sometimes crawl under the cover if it's cold. I couldn't tolerate that with a furry dog. You have to be a fairly social person to like the CC because wherever you take him he will be the center of attention.

I've changed my avatar to a pic of me and my dog. I wanted to show one more pic of the dog (Pepper) in his biker threads:
That's a Harley-Davidson jacket he's wearing.

Thought it might be fun to bump this old thread and see if anybody else has any new pet pics. Keep America Safe AND Free! |

brennakimi asks me:
quote: Well, he barks for one thing. Loudly. Actually, the only difference between him and other dogs is his lack of fur. He's called a Hairless Chinese Crested, but that's a misnomer. He has hair - as you can see - but no fur. People either think he's the most beautiful dog they've ever seen or the ugliest. No one ever seems to regard him with indifference. Next time there's a dog show on the Animal Channel you should watch the toy breed portion. You're sure to see one of these, and you can't really appreciate what they're like unless you see one in motion. In a way it's a shame I'm not heterosexual, because Pepper is the greatest chick magnet you could ever imagine. These dogs are very expensive, but you'll save money on them in the long run. They don't eat much and require little maintenance. Keep America Safe AND Free!

Oh, I absolutely LOVE malamutes. I've never owned one, but a friend did a couple decades ago.
I always liked big dogs, too. I've had two collies, a weimeraner and a labrador over the years. Never even considered a toy dog until I found out about this breed. Now that I have Pepper, I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. I've never had such a constant animal companion because I've never allowed a dog to live inside the house (although I did allow my tri-color collie, Gussie, into the house fairly often).
