Although massively unconstitutional, the one thing I can philosophically get behind the elimination of birthright citizenship. Citizen status is not forced upon you but offered to you. It's like a ball cap marked "Citizen" that, if you want, you have to pick up and put on your head. Until a person can decide to reject the hat or put it on it is assumed to be folded into a back hip pocket. The point is you are granted access to the hat (and the decision) by virtue of the blessed anointment of your birth upon a most worthy ground. You were born in the land of free. That is unique in this world. Put your hat on, pay your taxes, shut the fuck up and be free. If you want. As for the mother on the goal line, you should know the rules by now. As the refs fire up their quanum calipers and attempt to measure from replay both the position and brightness of each pixel, if she touches any part of the line, she's in.“There’s simply no polite way to tell people they’ve dedicated their lives to an illusion,” -Daniel Dennett Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

Seems like there some racism going on, in the raids looking for illegal immigrants.
Pix11 reports that 3 people were detained after ICE raided a warehouse. One of the people taken into custody was the manager - a Puerto Rican veteran of the US military. Only the Hispanic staff were questioned. In short it seems that if you look Hispanic you need proof of citizenship - carried on your person - all the time.

I have an idea, let's make them wear stars on their clothes so we know who they are.

And it gets worse.
First it seems that ICE has been issued arrest quotas Washington Post. So they’ll be going after the easy targets, and arresting people at the slightest excuse. Second - according to the Arizona Mirror they’ve increased their pressure on the Native American communities. Navajo are being arrested and their documents are not being accepted. Again this is not surprising. This is what America voted for.

I think it’s just racism and incompetence on the part of the people on the ground. Once they’ve decided to identify suspects by appearance and rigidly only accept particular documents - which don’t include those used by Native Americans - the rest follows.
Pressure to make more arrests is all that needs to come from higher up. Possibly orders about which documents to accept came from higher up - but that only takes carelessness. And agents should have the sense to realise that such orders are incorrect.

Its likely that "higher up" doesnt care about these specifics.
The suffering is the point.-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers “A world that can be explained even with bad reasons is a familiar world. But, on the other hand, in a universe suddenly divested of illusions and lights, man feels an alien, a stranger. His exile is without remedy since he is deprived of the memory of a lost home or the hope of a promised land. This divorce between man and his life, the actor and his setting, is properly the feeling of absurdity.” – Albert Camus "...the pious hope that by combining numerous little turds of variously tainted data, one can obtain a valuable result; but in fact, the outcome is merely a larger than average pile of shit." - Barash, David 1995... "Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, fearing for your own safety. Even the wise cannot see all ends." - Gandalf, J. R. R. Tolkien: The Lord Of the Rings "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." -->Nihil supernum --> -->

If birthright citizenship never existed in the U.S, then how would you prove you're a citizen? The EU countries already have this problem, so I looked up how they handle it, and the answer is not very rigorously. They just assume that if you're born to people thought citizens then you're a citizen. Circumstances requiring that citizenship be proved apparently arise only rarely.
But what if you want to be rigorous about who's a citizen? For those of you born here in the United States, no birthright citizenship means you could only be a citizen if one of your parents was a citizen. How do you prove that a parent was a citizen? Same thing, you'd have to prove that one of their parents (the grandparents) was a citizen. How do you prove that the grandparents were citizens? Same thing, you'd have to prove that one of their parents (the great grandparents) were citizens. And so on ad infinitum. How many people in the U.S. can trace their parentage back to the founding of the nation? Probably very few with any confidence. A few million maybe? A friend of ours is from Canada, as was my mother, and they both have naturalization documents proving them citizens of the United States. I have no such document. All I have is a birth certificate stating where and when I was born, and who my parents are. There is no proof on my birth certificate that my parents were citizens, and my father's birth certificate would not itself provide any proof of his or his parents' citizenship, but at least in my mother's case there is the naturalization document, except that I was born the year before she was naturalized, so with no birthright citizenship would I be a citizen or not? If birthright citizenship goes away then it will be fascinating to watch Congress attempt to create the legalese that would make people citizens who were born and raised here but not those whose parents entered the country illegally. Certainly I couldn't prove my father or his ancestors didn't enter the country illegally, so my status is no better than the offspring of illegal immigrants. --Percy

I have the same issue about being able to prove that I was born to US citizens, even though I was born here. Ironically my Vietnamese born wife has her naturalization paperwork so she can more easily prove that she is a citizen than I can!

Similarly, even with our current birthright citizenship laws, if the police stopped you on the street and required you to prove to them on the spot that you are a citizen, could you? How would you? Do you always carry with you on your person all the documentation required for you to comply to that law enforcement officer's demand?
Carry your passport with you everywhere inside your own country? Who does that? And who would want to have to worry about losing it or have it stolen from you along with your wallet/purse? Just in case of being ordered: „Ihre Papiere, bitte!" (actually, it's just „Papiere!") But passports are not limited to citizens but also to non-citizen nationals, so having a passport would not prove citizenship. I always carry my military ID (retired, so it serves as my health insurance card), but again that does not prove citizenship since non-citizens can also serve (in earlier times, military service could provide a path to citizenship according to "common knowledge"). Now we have the mandated Real ID, but I cannot see where it would prove citizenship. The best I can tell is that it standardizes state-issued IDs. The mag-strip and bar code ("Mark of the Beast" according to 70's Jesus Freak end-timers) would authenticate it (ie, not a forgery) and apparently access a government database (observe its use by TSA when you board a flight), but I'm not clear how that would work in the field by a cop on a beat. Since it's required so often for other forms of ID, most of us should have at least once applied for a certified copy of our birth certificate, but that's something that you'd keep safe at home (assuming your house doesn't burn down), not something you always carry on your person. BTW and back to your point of how to prove the citizenship of your parents and other ancestors, there are times in our history when many births were not registers and hence many people had no birth certificate. Examples are my father (Kansas, 1914) and his parents (Kansas, 1880's) and aunts and uncles (Kansas-Missouri area, 1880's). When Social Security registration started in the 1930's and required proof of birth, they had to get an Affidavit of Live Birth in which a witness (usually a relative) had to swear to them being who was born. The Hispanics of Texas can teach us a few things about proving their citizenship to every random cop stopping them. As reported on NPR about a decade ago when Texas was again getting very heavily into racial profiling, citizen Hispanics would photocopy (and miniaturize to card size for the wallet) and laminate their birth certificate and other pertinent personal documentation and keep that in their wallet for the countless times they'd get stopped and have to prove their citizenship. BTW, Cheech Marin based his movie, Born in East L.A. (1987), and earlier music video by the same name on this problem of how to prove your citizenship to a random cop on the street who just wants to deport you. The video:
In an interview about the video, Cheech said that he had to call in a lot of favors from people, like Jan Michael Vincent and Elvira.

So I had to look up how we do it:
When a Birth Certificate Can Prove British Citizenship1. Born in the UK Before 1 January 1983: • If you were born in the UK before this date, you are automatically considered a British citizen, regardless of your parents’ citizenship. A birth certificate showing your birth in the UK is sufficient proof. 2. Born in the UK After 1 January 1983: • You are automatically a British citizen if at least one of your parents was a British citizen or settled in the UK (held indefinite leave to remain or permanent residence) at the time of your birth. • A birth certificate alone does not confirm this; you may also need to provide proof of your parent(s)’ status at the time of your birth. Je suis Charlie. Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif. Je suis Parisien. I am Mancunian. I am Brum. I am London. Olen Suomi Soy Barcelona. I am Ukraine. "Science adjusts it's views based on what's observed.
