Hi Perry - I am optimistic about the next Trump administration. He is upbeat about what we can do to better our own circumstances, and he is refreshingly transparent, politically speaking. In contrast his opponents are preoccupied with what to prohibit to us for our own good, with what we need to do/stop doing to improve our own personal virtue, and with scolding us for asking so many questions.
Your criticisms of Trump are understandable, founded or unfounded though they may be. I wonder, do you have any such criticism for Biden, Biden's handlers, or Harris? Or are you OK with their performance, no complaints, on the whole? The criticisms of Trump's political adversaries is easily directed at very recent and ongoing misdeeds, whereas criticisms of Trump are generally limited to ominous expectations of what he is going to do, how he is going to behave. An objective observer would conclude that Trump's adversaries don't have any real argument against his policies, indeed, they just don't like him and wish to see him fail. We'll see come 20-Jan-2025!

quote: Well of course you are. You made your dedication to racism quite apparent in earlier posts.
quote: All criticisms of Trump’s policies would be “expectations of what he is going to do”. Trump is not yet President. And of course there are plenty of valid criticisms of what Trump did in office in his previous term. The mismanagement of the Covid pandemic, his utter failure to come up with a better alternative to the Affordable Care Act, his attempt to blackmail Ukraine and the absurdity of Sharpiegate all spring to mind. His determined attempts to steal the 2020 election up to encouraging insurrection simply put the cap on it.

K.Rose writes in Message 106: Hi Perry That's a new one. Is that "Perry" as in "Perry Mason", or "Perry the Platypus" of Phineas and Ferb fame, or Matthew Perry the musician, or Perry Como the singer, or Perry White the editor of the Daily Planet?
I am optimistic about the next Trump administration. Given his history and baggage, why?
He is upbeat about what we can do to better our own circumstances, and he is refreshingly transparent, politically speaking. Upbeat? He seems full of anger, grievance, revenge and ill-will towards all. He just threatened Republicans who didn't back his debt ideas with being primaried. He seems very eager to take control of the reins of the Justice Department and have them pursue anyone who in his view has done him wrong. And about transparency, that's often true. "Think it, say it," could be Trump's motto.
In contrast his opponents are preoccupied with what to prohibit to us for our own good,... You mean like prohibiting abortion? Cancelling LGBTQ rights? Removing books from schools? Making voting more difficult? Cancelling diversity? Some states making acts committed in other states illegal? Cancelling critical race theory? Prohibiting same sex marriage? Squashing efforts to make guns safer and less available.
...with what we need to do/stop doing to improve our own personal virtue, and with scolding us for asking so many questions. Sounds like you're scolding others for insufficient personal virtue. Meanwhile supposedly virtuous Christians are murdering each other at an increasingly alarming rate with easy gun access made possible by a conservative Supreme Court and a government largely beholden to the gun rights movement and the gun industry. Gun deaths now exceed vehicular deaths.
Your criticisms of Trump are understandable, founded or unfounded though they may be. As you said, Trump is transparent. He often has the grace to commit his indelicacies out in the open. It's limbo for Ukraine, threats for Europe, the middle finger for NATO, tariffs for all, and a lower deficit and lower taxes at the same time.
I wonder, do you have any such criticism for Biden, Biden's handlers, or Harris? Or are you OK with their performance, no complaints, on the whole? Did you read the The Biden Presidency thread. I was critical of Biden throughout. I called him disappointing. I'm an independent - did you forget? I'll vote for whoever I think will be best for the country specifically and the world in general. Conservatives under Trump are not providing for the general welfare or improving people's lives but are surrendering to people's worst fears and paranoia.
The criticisms of Trump's political adversaries is easily directed at very recent and ongoing misdeeds,... Where "very recent" is defined as beginning 15 years ago?
...whereas criticisms of Trump are generally limited to ominous expectations of what he is going to do, how he is going to behave. I again refer you to his history. Having grown up in the New York Metropolitan area I've followed Trump in the news for literally decades, so I'm probably aware of more of his history than the average person, but all the information is public. Most people were introduced to Trump through The Apprentice, but I know Trump from way before that. But his efforts to overturn the 2020 election generally (and about which he still carries a grievance) and January 6th specifically provide good examples of "how he is going to behave." An objective observer would conclude that Trump's adversaries don't have any real argument against his policies, indeed, they just don't like him and wish to see him fail. As a citizen of this country I do not wish to see Trump fail, but you'll have to explain to us how, given his history, you see him as built for success.
We'll see come 20-Jan-2025! Yep, dictator for a day, well Whoop De Doo! --Percy

Hi Perry - I am optimistic about the next Trump administration. Agreed, but he's going to have quite the challenge with the mainstream media's twists and distortions about what he's doing for the next four years, and beyond. As you probably know, ABC News just had to pony up $15 million for former Democrat advisor George Stephanopoulos lies about Trump's "rape convictions". Ever notice how any mainstream media reference is ALWAYS "former Fox anchor Pete Hegseth", while NEVER referring to Stephanopoulos as "former Democrat advisor George Stephanopoulos"? That and several other types of distortions are things that they can't be sued for, including the big one, their omissions of news. ABC was required to publicly acknowledge their loss in this suit. I've never seen it, and I watch ABC World News Tonight most evenings. Maybe they sneaked it in on a Saturday evening for about 5 seconds, when many local stations cover up that news broadcast with college football games, I don't know. But one thing's for sure, far fewer people know about that ABC suit than know about the Fox News suit from 4 years ago, that one was trumpeted all over the mainstream news. You probably also know about the Biden administrations recent attempts to sell off / scrap yet unused border wall panels so Trump would have to buy all new ones at taxpayer expense. Snopes does an impressive dance on how Biden is forced to do this by law, but the controversy is there, and I've seen not a word on ABC news. Biden Selling Off Parts of Border Wall? Here's What We Know | Snopes.com
quote: If it was a mixture of true and false, why wouldn't the mainstream media cover it? A LOT of reports that were a "mixture of true and false" that could be damaging to Trump, have always been and will continue to be trumpeted throughout the mainstream media.
quote: And I wonder who signed it into law? I'm one of the few who wonders, most people don't know a thing about it. The media can't be sued for news cover ups. One of the big Democrat talking points today is "president Elon Musk", some sly references to that effect even by the mainstream media. Wonder why they never referred to president George Soros? True that Soros wasn't designated for any certain position like Musk is, but that doesn't make any difference, the way money flows / flowed from Musk and Soros is comparable. Mainstream media viewers aren't inspired to think of that. Only a couple of examples of how the mainstream media distorts, a place where a large percentage of Americans get their news. Naturally mistrust of the mainstream media continues to rise, but IMO it's not rising fast enough. Maybe the Trump administration can call more and more attention to it - not to recent cable newcomers like Fox News, MSNBC, or CNN, but by the public-trust networks that have been around for over half a century, and have a responsibility to the public. Maybe Trump's new press secretary Karoline Leavitt can call some attention to it, but of course much of what she might say about it will be COVERED UP.
I wonder, do you have any such criticism for Biden, Biden's handlers, or Harris? Or are you OK with their performance, no complaints, on the whole? There is a teeny tiny bit of difference in his criticisms of Trump versus his criticisms of Biden, or the Giggler. ![]() An objective observer would conclude that Trump's adversaries don't have any real argument against his policies, indeed, they just don't like him and wish to see him fail. Of course they don't. The scary part is, most of them want to see him fail at the expense of the well being of the U.S. A symptom of TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. Where have you been, PaulK? Crying “RACIST” is soooo 2020, a gasping pejorative in want of a cogent argument.
Ditto the nazi/hitler/fascist/dictator stuff.

A thousand pardons, Percy, I can assure you the “Perry” will not happen again!
(……well, it might, but if it does, believe me, it won’t be intentional…)

I expect we’ll be learning a lot more about Jan 6 in the near future. Up until now the evidence and the narrative has been controlled by a secretive, one-sided collection of political figures.
The Insurrection charge is preposterous, as evidenced by the fact that, among the myriad of spurious charges brought against Trump over the last few years, none of the charges are for insurrection. I can think of only two reasons for this: 1. There is simply no case.2. Not only is there no case, formal charges would force discovery of all evidence, evidence that heretofore has not been presented, evidence that might tell a much different story, evidence that might impugn those who were all but certain they had evaded accountability. We’ll stay tuned.

I'm still optimistic given all the expected flak and roadblocks. Trump is much wiser, more prepared, and, yes, more introspective this time around.
He has a knack for staying one step ahead of the opposition, diffusing the vicious barbs they throw at him, and coming out on top no matter how convinced they are that "this time we got 'im". Witness all the lawfare failures. To quote Flounder: "..this is gonna be great!".
