the moon and sun - yeah they're INSIDE of our atmosphere.
You're a flat-earther, right?
Back around 1990 science writer Robert Schadewald (he did a lot of reporting on creationist conferences which he attended) did an article on flat-earthers.
Before then there had been a Flat Earth Society (FES) whose membership seemed to have dwindled down to one. Schadewald also recounted how Dr. Henry Morris, "Father of Flood Geology" and co-founder and President of the Institute for Creation Research (ICR), had publicly distanced the ICR and creationism from flat earthers stating that there are no flat-earther members of the ICR. He then received an angry letter from a flat-earther member of the ICR cancelling his ICR membership with, "
NOW there isn't!"
Schadewald also reported on his phone conversation with that sole member of the FES in which the flat-earther rattled through his list of "evidences". When Schadewald pointed out a few problems with those "evidences", the other end of the line went silent for a few seconds, followed by, "I see that you are part of the conspiracy.", which itself was followed immediately with a click.
The thing is that, yes, one can indeed use the Bible to support a flat earth, so flat-earthism
is "Bible-supported" like a lot of other mutually contradicting ideas. That being the case only supports the idea that the Bible cannot be taken seriously as a source of scientific information ... or even of a reality-based description of the world.
IOW, demanding that scientific knowledge
gained from direct observation and examination of the real world be replaced by contrary-to-reality nonsense derived from one's interpretations of the Bible is a sure loser of an argument.
The truth is being uncovered layer by layer and Science is not bad, it's not evil or wrong but evil men are abusing it and using theories without testing them teaching them as FACTS in CLASSROOMS in elementary, middle, and high schools and college! How is that okay????
BTW, as a bonus here's the definition of a
scientific theory:
quote:
Definition of "theory":
A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspects of the natural world based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment.
Theory might win the prize for the most commonly misunderstood word in science. In everyday usage, a theory is a hunch. A guess. Speculation. For example, I have a theory about why my cat yells (sings?) at night — he’s calling on the spirits of his ancestors to free him from the captivity of his luxurious life.
But in science speak, a theory is almost the complete opposite — it’s a broad explanation for a wide range of phenomena that’s supported by a vast amount of evidence. As science progresses and evidence accumulates, related ideas are combined into a clear and powerful explanation.
Theories form the basis of our scientific knowledge and are used by scientists to make predictions for further testing, and as such are continually subjected to scrutiny.
Examples include gravitational theory, plate tectonic theory, evolutionary theory, cell theory, germ theory, foraging theory, the sliding filament theory of muscular contraction, atomic theory…
The bottom line is that the ultimate goal of science is to understand and explain the natural world, and theories are about as close to the “truth” as we may ever get.
So don’t be fooled when someone doubts science because “it’s just a theory.”
It would do you some good to learn some science.
Not Christians, or Islam, the people who call themselves Christians - never actually read His word. They cherry pick and read verses then twist them to fit their lifestyle and the one's who read, only read the New Testament and completely ignore the Old. I see how pointless it is to argue anymore because nobody actually does the research or put the time in to LOOK. ... The problem is that they have us believing we all pray to the same "God". The POPE has stated this as well. Come on you know in your heart this is not true.
Huh, you actually got something right for a change. Amazing!
Since any actual god would be beyond our ability to perceive, let alone know to the degree of exactitude professed by religions, each religion is left to its own devices to create their own "God", usually as a version of its parent religion's "God". There's an estimated 45,000 different versions of Christianity (200 in the USA), so their "One God" is actually 45,000 gods (or 200 gods in the USA). Furthermore, each individual believer has to create his own "God" surrogate just to be able to start to deal with and work with that concept.
So then, yeah, every believer has a different personal "God". Obviously.
