Thanks to Newshounds (they watch Fox so we don't have to) for posting this, else I'd have missed it. Brit Hume aired it toward the end of his Fox News program, which I seldom watch.
Britain's Got Talent is apparently the prototype for American Idol, but I'll bet something like this has never happened on the latter program. This guy is absolutely unbelievable! He peddles cell phones for a living. Who'd have guessed he could do something as magnificent as this Puccini aria? Watch this clip, and if you're easily moved by great music you might want to have a kleenex handy: W.W.E.D.?

Britain's Got Talent is apparently the prototype for American Idol Pop Idol was the prototype for American Idol - it was just about popular music. This one is to find a talent act to perform at the Royal Variety Performance. Last night he made it to the final with Con Te Partiro. Edited by Modulous, : No reason given.

He won the Britian's Got Telent competition with a repeat performance of Nessun Dorma.
This guy is a true internet sensation. With very little over-the-air exposure or printed stories about him outside Britain, his videos on YouTube have racked up well over 5 million views. He's now got a recording contract and will be performing for the queen. Tonight, Keith Olbermann confidently predicted that, if you haven't yet heard of Paul Potts, you will. From Olbermann and from snippets of various articles on the internet, I've gathered that Potts has had some professional training in Italy, and he worked with an amateur opera company but was never paid for it. He was paying for his training, but at some point medical expenses began to overwhelm him and he had to give it up. Potts said that his audition for BGT was a last-ditch effort to achieve success singing. It looks like his effort has paid off quite well. So even though he's had some training, I think his is still a great Cinderella story. Here's his performance from the BGT finals: W.W.E.D.?

Thanks, berberry. I needed that Kleenex. Incredible.
BTW, I don't know who modeled who, but that right-most judge's haircut is definitely American Idol. Real things always push back. -William James Save lives! Click here!Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC! ---------------------------------------

"Insane Asylum" is one of Willie Dixon's more obscure compositions. I believe he wrote it for Koko Taylor. Koko recorded it (with Willie also doing some vocals) on one of her Chess label recordings. Diamanda has a studio version on her album "The Singer". Just her singing and playing piano (as is the video version). See also the other DG YouTube video, if you care. I view DG as being for those who find Yoko Ono too tame. A unique artist. Moose ps: Came very close to accidentally starting a new topic.

Koko recorded it (with Willie also doing some vocals) on one of her Chess label recordings. The recording I have is pretty much a duet. And it wails! AbE: your gal belts it out, too. I think I'm in love. Edited by Coragyps, : No reason given.

I should have put this in the first message. I was guided to the video by the WFMU blog: Diamanda Galas NYC shows in August; Interview from the past - WFMU's Beware of the Blog
There is a bio and print interview at the above link, which includes:

Moose Added by second edit: I've just noted that WFMU has a DG version of Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman" available as an MP3. It also is just voice and piano:http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/...amanda_Galas_-_Lonely_Woman.mp3 Edited by Minnemooseus, : Fix typo. Edited by Minnemooseus, : Added MP3 stuff at bottom.

I found this at If Slash or Buckethead Are Out There - WFMU's Beware of the Blog
They found it at Music for Maniacs: July 2007, or so they say. I wasn't exactly able to find it there, but I did track down a link to https://www.youtube.com/user/gunecologist, where it and more are available. I'm inclined to agree with someone at the WFMU blog - It's probably faked. Still pretty good and funny. Starting at Music for Maniacs might be good for finding endless musical amusement. Excuse me if I seem shaky, but I just spent an hour listening to Gogol Bordello.
