I mostly agree with this.
I'm pretty sure that Christie and Hutchinson both know that they haven't a chance of actually winning. I take their real goal to be an attempt to return their party to sanity.

As I have said before, I'm behind Vivek Ramaswamy. The young man makes sense and nearly all of his views are ones I share.
He may make sense to you.
Looking at what you quoted in Message 24, it looks to me as if Ramaswamy is arguing in favor of motherhood and apple pie. That is to say, he is carefully avoiding arguing any real policy position, and is wording what he says in very vague terms so that he can appeal to people like Phat by not actually saying anything.
Unless that changes, I won't expect to be supporting him.

It that's what he was trying to do, then he isn't very good at creating such an appearance. There was nothing legitimate about his "question".
He seemed to be going out of his way to alienate the independent voters whose support he would need.

Re: Vivek Ramaswamy Politicizes the Latest Trump Indictments
The real problem for Republicans, including Ramaswamy, is that they don't seem to have any policy proposals.
They attack Biden and they attack Democrats. But they fail to come up with actual policy proposals of their own. In the meantime, Biden's economic plans seem to be working pretty well.

Percy in Message 195 writes:
For that group that believes the election stolen I have a question: How was it done?
You are talking about a group that doesn't do "how" questions. They only do "why" questions.
And it turns out the GOP base as a whole is increasingly admitting it to themselves — that its continued belief in a stolen election is largely just about vibes.
You can see the same "vibes" pushing Phat to believe that the economy is poised for collapse. And, of course, marc9000 is similarly responding to "vibes".
This group of people seems to believe that there are sinister dark forces (or evil spirits) at work. But, never mind. The "prosperity gospel" preachers are making a tidy sum from the gullibility of this group.
Watching Phat and marc9000 provides interesting insight into human psychology.

Percy in Message 213 writes:
Am I the only person here who has never heard liberals claim or even hint that the USSR was a victim of the Cold War?
No, you are not the only one.
An aside: I can't call myself a liberal because I'm a sort a blend: a social liberal, a fiscal conservative, a free trade advocate, a gun control advocate, and a strong military advocate who's opposed to most foreign interference and invasions.
That pretty much describes me. I'd say that you are a liberal, but you are not from the progressive branch of the left.
Am I the only person here who has encountered few liberals who reject God and hate our country?
Again, I agree with you here.
Maybe I should add that I was a graduate student at Yale.
As a grad student, I didn't have that many interactions with the undergrads. I can agree that some of the undergrads, such as those from Andover and Exeter, tended to be a bit stuffy. I didn't see that in the grad student population.
There were frequent public lectures, and some of them were on topics that would have offended conservatives. But they did not go as far as DeSantis says.
My reaction, on reading the first few paragraphs of that NYTimes article, was that DeSantis was attempting to demonstrate that he is up there with Trump in his ability to spout a stream of lies.
I don't know where DeSantis got his ideas about Yale. He didn't get them from Yale itself. They sound far more as if they came from the movie "God is Dead" or from what fundamentalist preachers say.

I'm not expecting T**** to flee. He has too much ego invested for that to be likely.
I would be happy if he would flee. That would be an admission of guilt. I suspect that the prosecutors would also be happy if he were to flee. And that's why he won't.

In context, I was responding to a post that made bare assertions with no supporting evidence or argument.
I responded in kind. But it is really a foolish way to "debate", and my intention was to illustrate that foolishness.

If the Democrats had chosen to nominate someone other than Biden they would be wiping the floor with Trump.
I'm not at all sure about that. At present, I'm not seeing a Democrat who would "wipe the floor". Mythical nameless democrats don't count.
If the Republicans had nominated someone else other than Trump they would probably win by a significant margin, for a Republican nominee.
This is possibly true. But it would depend on how the Trump base reacted, and that's hard to predict.

Oh, bullshit. You should know better than that.
Watch this short clip from Sky News Australia, a week before this assassination attempt
I watched it part way through. I gave up a 2:18 into the video, It is really shitty reporting.
They take some clips from social media, and opinionate about it. There wasn't any genuine news gathering.
Personally, I don't do social media because I expect it to be full of nonsense. Sky News should be ashamed of itself for doing this.
In the part that I watched, I did not see any actual assassination threat.
What I saw were criticisms of the recent Supreme Court ruling. The attempts were in the form of "reductio ad absurdum". This was not surprising, as such reductios had already been presented in the lower court hearing.

Re: Media And Its Role In This Election
I am now thinking of an alternate theory that this whole event was a set-up by Trumps side rather than an assassination attempt by the Left.
While that is a possibility, it seems unlikely.
It is looking as if the gunman was a Republican of the never-Trumper variety.
