Social responsibility is something you have repeatedly shown that you oppose in every form.

Re: Who Is We?
What I oppose is one-party authoritarianism, even if it is for the betterment of humanity (arguably, of course) But that's a bit off topic. I would hire Tucker Carlson over Don Lemon any day of the week. You would likely do the opposite. Which just proves my point that "we" often disagree.

Bullshit!
You ALWAYS object to any of YOUR tax dollars going to help anyone who is less fortunate than you. We have watched your behavior for 20 FUCKING YEARS.

Re: Kill All Humans!
You would be on the consortium to prevent things like Colossos - The Forbin Project from ever eventuating.
Spectacular movie. Because of memes like this in the human soul I don't think we need worry about such monstrosities.
Now you got me going. I'm going to have to see it again.
But China actually already has a task force working on containing chatBOTS from accessing and spreading the Tienanmen Square story from being seen by their citizens, so they are a "step", if you can call it that, ahead of the USA.
The Chinese use of AI is certainly not to the West's benefit. You're not surprised. No one is. None of their considerable skills are used for anything other than what they see as China's benefit. They watch everything, in and out of their domains.
In the West, national and financial AIs are watching everything in China as well. We are not last in this game. I imagine they look to exploit opportunities for intelligence and financial gains. I have to think the NSA and Wall Street are as deep into AI as any competitor the world over just not centered on the same goals.
If you want to argue that the use of AIs in mean and nasty ways is the AI's fault thus we are in mortal danger from AI then I concede.
I was looking for something more like the evil sentience of AI doing us in, not the evil sentience of humans ... which has already done us in.

I wanted to start this topic on a whim after I heard Percy say in response to Kleinman:
quote:
Kleinman writes:
You seem to have gotten a very tiny bit out of the Bible. You missed the part where Jesus said, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her".
Percy writes:
So you think society should be guided by a book with obvious contradictions.

Which brngs up a line of questions.
  • Where are the sources of wisdom? Do they begin and end with objective evidence and the scientific method? Should they?
  • Note how, in politics for example, people mimic canned answers from the ideology which they follow. Very few of us go beyond the narrative with our own original thought.
  • AZPaul3 hates theism with a passion. Many of you lean towards the same conclusion. In light of the passing of Dr.Charles Stanley, I will include this video in this post as it pertains to "Godly wisdom" and the source thereof. In light of Percys claim of obvious contradictions, what can one conclude about Theistic philosophy versus secular philosophy?
  • I just have a couple of thoughts on your post which is well done BTW. Firstly the quote about casting the first stone is not just a comment on regarding on own failings and not to be too quick to condemn, but it is also a repudiation of public stoning which was a large part of that culture. Heck, in the OT they have Yahweh pronouncing that some poor schmuck who picked up firewood on the Sabbath should be stoned to death. This would be one of the contradictions that Percy would mention. You can't have it being both commanded and rejected, so the only Christian answer can be that Yahweh did not command it and there some human failing that is responsible for that being written the way it was.
As to Percy's comment I think it is important that we don't think of the Bible as a list of laws and commands as in a constitution, but view it as a narrative that can read as a whole which can influence us to do the kind loving thing, and part of that is so that we can see a picture of how human nature perverted the message of love and kindness for individual power and greed.
Over the years I have become increasingly in line, without realizing it, with the so-called "emergent or emerging church". The best source of information on that is Brian McLaren, and I think that the best place to understand him is his book A New Kind of Christianity

He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God.

    Micah 6:8

Oh stop! You New Age Arizona Vortex Aficionados have your differences too!
Some of you desire becoming witches and warlocks, while others simply wear crystals and celebrate the god within! Once, when visiting Sedona, I had a massage by this New Age girl who remarked that I had a royal purple aura! Sort of the celebrity status energy field from what I hear! Of course I never told her about Jesus nor offered her any crackers! I figured that if her voodoo was so powerful it would tune in on the royal purple vibe without any help from me!

You missed out on your trip to Sedona. You should have noticed the fliers freely floating about town. I was up there just a few weeks ago and there must have been a half-dozen invites to mystic christian happenings. Remember Sedona is one of those rare portals to the cosmic consciousness and I guess Jesus is expected to be in there somewhere.

Sedona always seemed like a big tourist trap to me, but up in Oak Creek Canyon just to the north is prime habitat for a really cool large dragonfly, Cordulegaster diadema, along with a dozen or so desert stream specialist species. Over the past 30 years wildfires and flash floods have had a huge impact on the aquatic biodiversity in the canyon.

Yes, indeed it is. That's one reason you don't find many Cordulegaster diadema there. Being locals they're too smart to fall for that crap.
