...meanwhile as we wait for word from a Hospice in Georgia
it seems that Stella Stevens died at 84.
I remember her from The Ballad of Cable Hogue, but if memory serves me better than it seems to be doing these days, I think she also did a spread for Hugh Hefner's magazine back in the day.

Ricou Browning, 93
Ricou Browning - Wikipedia
Our family was in St. Augustine during filming of the 2nd Creature Of The Black Lagoon. They decided they needed a science lab in the fim and chose the lab my dad was working in at the time. But when they got there, they changed it to get retorts bubbling over Bunson burners rather than the genuine boring stuff. My younger brother, 3 at the time, was absolutely terrified when dad held him out to Ricou, dripping in his costume at the marina as they were getting some shots of him swimming around in their pool. i vaguely also remember a student film parody made during the movie shooting that we all got to sit in some room and watch. one of the student actors was filmed over and over falling from the top of a building with ketchup in his shirt. i think at the end when the police chase the Creature to the edge of a lake carrying the girl, that that was when the girl waved them off and decided to go with the Creature...

I wonder what our obituaries will say some day?

At least you created the game of xong and helped start a few things in your life. You wont be like I am and be known as the grumpy old man who hated Republicans!

Re: Wayne Shorter, 89
Sonny Rollins is credited as being a major influence on Shorter. I was surprised to find out that Rollins (still alive) is only 3 years older than Shorter.

David Lindley (March 21, 1944 – March 3, 2023, 78)
Probably best know as sideman for Jackson Brown. His falsetto vocal on "Stay" is credited on the album jacket as being "a rare vocal appearance by David Lindley".

Huey "Piano" Smith - January 26, 1934 – February 13, 2023, age 89
Huey "Piano" Smith - Wikipedia - (Years active 1949–1981)
quote:
In 1959, Ace Records removed Smith's vocal track from the original recording of his song "Sea Cruise" and replaced it with a vocal track by singer Frankie Ford. The song was Ford's first hit, selling over a million copies. Ace's decision to release the song with the Ford vocal and to not release Smith's original version meant that Smith was unable to fully benefit from his own work, and the move by Ace is considered by music historians to be an example of racial injustice in the 1950s pop-music industry. (Smith's original version of the song was eventually released.)
A musical titan, who I thought died a long time ago.

Sometimes the demented Loony Lefties at Rolling Stone magazine actually publish something worth reading.

Why did you make his death political? Because you are an ass?

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. -Christopher Hitchens

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

Rolling Stone magazine makes almost everything political ... they're so dementedly woke.

Dredge, please keep political comments out of the Tribute Thread. Our collective purpose is to honor those who have passed. It is not a place to discuss their politics nor to denigrate them or dance on their grave.

??? I didn't comment at all about anyone who has passed, let alone "discuss their politics ... denigrate them or dance on their grave".

No, but you took a political swing in a tribute thread. Don't you think that was inappropriate? Just saying that... I'm not an administrator anymore.
