Phat writes: still no real symptoms apart from the sore arm except for that brief feeling that my lungs were on fire...similar to how chronic bronchitis feels only worse. It only lasted that first night after I received the shot, however. Got the first dose last week (Moderna), but didn't have any reaction in my airways. Sore arm and a bit of swelling at the injection site, a bit worse than a flu shot. The 2nd dose is supposed to elicit a stronger reaction, so we will see how that goes. Overall, absolutely worth it. Optimism is suddenly becoming more infectious. Edited by Taq, : No reason given.

The last thing a respiratory virus wants to do is kill the host. A host that's no longer breathing is no longer seeding the air with virus spawn. So lethality is selected against. A host that is too sick to get out and about among other people is not very useful to the virus. Shut-aways or hospitalized people keep the virus from spreading. So making the host too sick is also selected against. What a respiratory virus wants most is high transmissibility combined with minimal impact on the host. A highly infected but completely functioning host is the ideal. The best host is probably one who enjoys running in crowded subways. High transmissibility and minimal severity of illness are the selection pressures on covid variants. The most transmissible variant will have a strong tendency to displace all others. If it also causes the least severe illness then that would be the ideal outcome, both for the virus and for us. We don't yet know the severity of illness caused by the new variants, but if selection pressures can dominate over random outcomes (not guaranteed) then there is reason for hope.
I also have high hopes that Covid will become domesticated if it circulates in the human population. What still concerns me is Covid hiding out in a non-human host for a while and then hopping back to humans. This could have been how we got the Omicron variant to begin with, although I think that hypothesis has fallen out of favor as of late. Whatever happened with Omicron, it was hiding out somewhere for a while and the jump in S gene mutations was a bit worrying.

A discussion with people who are rude, inhumane, delusional and mentally ill is worthless. So i just drop the facts. Fact - They said it would give you immunity Fact - They were wrong Porkncheese logic. Experts say that seatbelts will prevent injury and death in car accidents. People still die in car accidents while wearing seatbelts. Therefore, the experts are wrong.

False. The CDC never said that the vaccine would stop 100% of infections. Even the vaccine clinical trials only claimed 95% reduction in symptomatic infections within 2 months of receiving the vaccine.
Some very delusional people here cannot accept that simple fact even though they're fully vaxed and boosted, still wear masks, keep distance and even hold their breath All of the people here are fully aware that vaccines are not 100% effective. No vaccine is 100%. No federal agency is claiming that vaccines are 100% effective. No scientific organization is claiming that vaccines are 100% effective. The only people making this type of irrational claim are those who are trying to misrepresent the science, like you.

Still, it won't hurt anything to top off with some vitamin D, just don't pretend that it is a valid replacement for vaccines or approved meds.

Would be interesting to see if vaccines could actually make an impact in voting at some point.

PorknCheese writes: Meanwhile the vaxed are suddenly dropping all around with all cause deaths up by as high as 40% in some highly vaxed nations ... It's as if anti-vaxxers can't even stop for a second and do some simple math. About 79% of the US is vaccinated. If 40% have dropped dead in a country with 330 million people that would be 0.79*0.40*330E6=104E6. That's 104 million people that seemingly have died due to the vaccine in the US. Funny how no one has noticed this. Our hospitals were filled to capacity, and over capacity at times, due to people dying from COVID, and that was nowhere close to the rates anti-vaxxer fantasies are claiming for deaths due to vaccines. This is worse than Flat Earth. Added in edit:Just for fun, I looked up the mortality rates for the US over the last 10 years or so: Year Death Rate Growth Rate 2022 9.075 1.090% 2021 8.977 1.090% 2020 8.880 1.120% 2019 8.782 1.120% 2018 8.685 1.220% 2017 8.580 1.240% 2016 8.475 1.270% 2015 8.369 1.270% 2014 8.264 1.290% 2013 8.159 0.090% 2012 8.152 0.090%U.S. Death Rate 1950-2022 | MacroTrends Death rate is deaths per 1,000 people. If we use the last pre-COVID year as our benchmark, then there has been about 0.4 more deaths per 1,000 people in 2022. If all of those extra deaths are due to vaccines (which they aren't) then we are looking at a 0.04*0.79 or 0.03% increase. Again, this pushing the numbers to the extreme. 40% . . . really? Porkncheese writes: But once the covid injections started being given out in 2021 we should see these deaths drop back down to normality.Instead we see a continuation of high death rates and some even higher now. What we should see is hospitalizations and deaths drop amongst those who were vaccinated, and that's exactly what we saw here in the US. In the COVID wave of late 2021 and early 2022, 90-95% of hospitalizations and deaths were amongst the unvaccinated even though the unvaccinated made up less than half the US population.

Fact of the matter is that this is a horrible trend across the world and needs thorough unbias examination and we aren't seeing it.

porkncheese writes: So the three most probable causes for this increase in deaths areCovid Lockdowns Injections The vaccine wasn't killing people. If that were the case then hospitals would have been filling up with people who tested negative for COVID. That wasn't the case. The hospitals filled up with people who tested positive for COVID, and >90% of them were unvaccinated. You still can't deal with the facts. You are a liar.
