I'm sure there was some point in history where there was 1/5th the amount of currency in circulation than there is now. That looks to be around 1990-95 according to this chart (select MAX): https://tradingeconomics.com/...n%20in%20January%20of%201959. There was a spike in 2020 because of you know what, but it wasn't a 5x increase. It was about a 20% increase, or a 1/5th increase. I'm guessing that Phat got the denominator and numerator mixed up.

Currency used to be based on a bedrock value. For millennia all over the world most societies relied on gold as their medium of exchange and the only store of value most would trust. Economies were small and there was (usually) plenty of gold around to handle the disruptions and expansions. That changed when liquidity issues in larger and growing economies could not be serviced with gold. As much as there is there’s just not enough of it. Gold is not so fungible an asset in a digital age. Gold is a wonderful emotional commodity popular society still cherishes and hoards. But to base an economy as large as the USofA on a nonfungible commodity cannot but spell economic disaster in the very short term and, physically, cannot be done in this economy. There aren’t enough resources available to make the change over. If your currency is to be based on gold you kinda have to have the gold. There isn't enough.
This is no mere macro-cycle we are in. We are at the beginning of the end of the life we now know. As for our future? Mother Nature will determine how sever our punishments will be regardless of what we do with our commodities or economies.

Perhaps if we back a global currency with humans we would have a bunch oof individuals, each unique...to back the commerce. Sounds doable in theory but evil in practice.l Stick with the gold.

And like your religion, Phat, you have fallen in with vipers, conmen and republicans out to convince you of their fantasies. Read their books and argue their points but for god's sake, Phat, stop putting actual $$$ into their schemes and their wallets. P. T. Many years ago, my father asked me to draw a cartoon for his Sunday School class: Fred Flintstone with a thought-bubble containing the word E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N. Sometimes cartoons can convey a strong message. Sometimes it's a false message. Cartoons are not necessarily a good source of information. They're one step below videos.
