nwr writes: True. I never thought about that, although it too concerns me.
If you carry a cell phone, you are being tracked. If you use a computer, you are being tracked. Get used to it. mwr writes: That's a terrible thing to say. I don't cheat nor do I advocate cheating. (Though upon reflection I have cheated 40 years ago)I will tell you this much, however. The US is going into another level of debt relative to GDP. Both political parties blame the other guys, but I see ALL politicians as responsible due to the fact that NO administration wants to be the "bad guys" who have to cut up the national credit card (short term pain) to rescue the country from long term destruction. jar used to always say that "The Bill Will Get Paid" and no generation wants to be retired and dependent on the government for assistance the decade that they decide to pay off the debt (if they ever do). I think that they plan to inflate their way out of it by paying back our national obligations in cheaper dollars. This still might mean that a new currency will be created to replace the old inflated (and worthless) dollars. Im still researching the idea...and am trying not to listen to people who already have "it" all figured out and have an opinion (usually anti-Biden) regarding the idea.
So this really is all about you wanting to cheat on taxes.
nwr writes: Even back when I was growing up 40+ years ago, I remember buying cars from third party sellers (like one of my friends Dads) where we would state the purchase price on the paperwork as less because the motor vehicle tags would tax you more the higher the price you paid. So in reflection, I suppose that was cheating....even 40 years ago. As far as I know, you cannot register a car without saying how you acquired it. Back in 1980, when Reagan was just becoming president, I worked at a restaurant owned by another friends Dad. I was the dishwasher and they paid me $4.00 an hour. I also worked 2-3 hours at lunch (I was in that place 7 days a week) and I recall being paid in cash for the lunch shift. So again, I suppose that that was "cheating" though I never complained about it nor did many of my other friends who were busboys at different restaurants back then. They all declared their tips to be less than they were to avoid the taxes. The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” - Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You (1894). Or lets say that your overall winnings and losings were tracked 100% and you owed tax every darn time you came out ahead? To me that is overarching government control and authoritarian.
oh no the government expects you to follow the law and not cheat on your taxes, those bastards. It is times like this I think he has been pulling a Poe on us all this time. It is astounding that anyone could be this so lacking in self-awareness.
What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. -Christopher Hitchens Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

Phat writes: Theodoric is trying in vain to discredit Ray Dalio with no evidence to back his argument up, except what he can google off of the internet. My advice is to ignore him and read the book (or watch the video) yourselves if you are at all interested in the premise. How would you know if Dalio is wrong?

Sure, everybody did that a hundred years ago. But the point is that today, most of your transactions are already being tracked. You don't need to worry about that horrible Joe Biden doing what was already done forty years ago.
But what if your brother had cashed out his paycheck, government check or whatever and paid cash for all of his coffee and items which he purchased? You would be none the wiser. Phat writes:
IS being tracked - unless you're hiding it in your "overseas system".
If every single transaction ever made could be tracked... Phat writes:
You don't get to decide what's "necessary".
If every single transaction ever made could be tracked, you would be hounded by regulations beyond what is necessary. Phat writes:
And most likely illegal. In Saskatchewan, you have to register your car and its value will be assessed for insurance purposes, regardless of what you paid for it or how you got it.
As an example, say I wanted to trade my car for a better one and my neighbor agreed to swap cars if I gave him cash. Under the old system, the exchange would be private. Phat writes:
Is already, and has been for years. Why is it that nobody on YouTube knows that? Under the new system, everything one does would be tracked and recorded. Al Capone was convicted of tax evasion (in 1931 for God's sake) because he was spending more than he was reporting as income. There were records.
Phat writes:
Of course not. Surely even Wild-West Colorado must require you to insure your car. Your insurance is based on your car's value - and any goober can take one glance at your car and look up the blue book value.
Am I not free to buy a car from a private seller and not have the value exchange tracked so obsessively? Phat writes:
Stop saying you agree with things I never said. I do NOT agree with that.
While I agree that wealthy individuals should be watched closer for tax evasion than a hundred dollar winner at a casino.... Phat writes:
And should be. See Al Capone.

No they don't. They want to BE big government.
Conservatives rightly detest big government... Phat writes:
Conservatives want to control every woman's body. Conservatives want to control what chemicals you ingest. Shall I go on?

You want the unequally rich to be allowed to hide their money offshore. Their refusal to pay their share of taxes impinges on YOUR freedom. Liberals by and large want to redistribute. Conservatives want to maintain. Nonsense. Conservatives want to redistribute upwards (toward the rich). And they have been doing a lot of that.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Liberals don't want to redistribute wealth. They want to tax people based on their ability to pay taxes. Given what you have said in other posts, I'm guessing that you don't have a lot of extra income that can go towards taxes. Liberals would want to keep you taxes low. Conservatives, on the other hand, continue to increase spending while reducing taxes on the rich. Who do you think is going to get that bill?

If we follow the conservative idea of reducing taxes on the rich, then your taxes will have to go up. I'm afraid that taxes will increase dramatically even if no more money is funneled to the rich. My argument(and fear) is that the government should never have the power to strip us of our savings. People may be starving, but Jesus said that the poor will be with us always. My argument focuses on Liberal Authoritarianism and control. Now about the Conservatives. They advocate those huge tax cuts for the wealthy for two reasons, in my opinion.1) They believe in trickle-down economics, which in my mind has failed to work. They do have a point in that there is no reason for a man such as Bezos or Musk to even stay in this country if the people vote to supertax their wealth (rather than giving them business perks) 2) Crony-Capitalism. Taq writes: Remember Dalio's third global empire described in his book? Britain. Britain sought to tax the crap out of wealthy rock artists such as Jagger and Richards. So what did the old stoners do? They packed up and left the country. The same thing will (and is) happening here as the Liberal agenda desperately needs tax revenue from the top 10%. Industrialists and large business owners can't just pick up and move like rock-n-rollers. Do you think Walmarts are all just going to close?

Why would Walmarts close if the Walmart family left the country?
