This suggestion will depend on what you want all the data in this EvC Forum you've created/collected to be used for.
I was reading Message 1465 by Tangle and this line jumped out at me:
quote:
This is absolutely nothing like evolution - there is mountains of physical evidence for evolution, only fundamentalist religious nutters rail against evolution.
While this is true, it hasn't always been this way. 10 or 15 or 20+ years ago the science hadn't progressed quite as much, and the information about the progression of the science had progressed much less. There were many, many "non-nutters" discussing EvC and many of those discussions happened here.
Along those lines, if there's a part of you that wants the historical posting data here to be used for historical purposes, I think it would be really cool if the board had some kind of "date filter" selector that could be used.
The date filter would be exactly that... the dBoard software would be exactly the same, but it would only select/display messages from the database that are within the selected date range.
This way, it would be extremely easy and intuitive to "see what the board looked like" and get a feel for the types of discussions going on during any particular timeframe.
The default "start date" could be the very beginning... but if this was selectable as well it may be useful for somethings I can't even think of.
Want to know what discussions were going on 15 years ago?
Select data from "beginning" to "Nov 15, 2007" and the board posts/forums "All Topics" appears exactly as it did on that day.
-so simple to view what topics were trending at that time
-easy way to start navigating the historical data contained within this forum
-date filter can be adjusted at any time to follow any interesting discussion until its completion
Not sure if this is a lot more work than I'm thinking it would be or not... but that, and your interest in doing something like this at all, is of course up to you.
I just think it would be cool
