It's silly to diagnose anything from watching him on TV but it seems to me that a serious degree of mental deterioration is one explanation for the bananas things he says every time he opens his mouth.
I suspect it has more to do with a massive case of cognitive dissonance than it does cognitive deterioration. When you have to support a massive pile of lies you are going to have to say some crazy things. Trump forgot the first rule of holes a long time ago.

The old codger will get blamed for the next great economic recession/depression, which will hit within a year.
I think it is unfair to blame any president for normal business cycles of recessions and booms. These cycles are actually healthy for the economy. All we ask is that they don't make the cycles worse than they need to be. Bad deregulation is probably the best example of what not to do, such as the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act that paved the way for the 2008 crash.

Re: Recession?

Agreed. But I think the Federal Reserve has no firm grip on solutions. They are basically experimenting.
The economic principles are well understood. The problem is that the Fed is ultimately a political institution which means it is influenced more by how their actions will affect votes than it will affect the economy. We would be much better of letting recession happen while mitigating the how bad the recession gets. However, no administration wants a recession during their term, so they may enact policies that make a future recession even worse.
Excessive QT (Quantitative tightening) will overcorrect and plunge us into a recession.
Indeed it will. It's a fine balance.
It is ignorant to assume that only one political party is truthful and has our best interests at heart while the other guys are spawns of satan.
I fully agree that there are no angels in government. I just happen to lean towards the party that demonstrates a little bit of sanity instead of the party that is occupied by insane conspiracy theories.

I would entertain DeSantis if he divorced himself from Trump.
The problem is that DeSantis may want to emulate Trump. It's one thing to get rid of Mussolini, but a bit frustrating if he's replaced by Mussolini II.
