Biden is certainly old (just a bit more than my age). Too old in my opinion to be in such a position.
But Biden isn't showing any (or very, very few) signs of his age from a mental point. Trump on the other hand seems much more confused than my father was at 85. It's silly to diagnose anything from watching him on TV but it seems to me that a serious degree of mental deterioration is one explanation for the bananas things he says every time he opens his mouth.

What is pointing to a recession/depression?
What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. -Christopher Hitchens Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

No....Biden. You mean the guy who's actually able to get things done? Like reduce the effects of the world-wide inflation. Like actually helping Americans' finanacial (contrasted with Trump grifting everybody for personal profit). Like actually helping bringing Americans some relief from exorbitant medical expenses (eg, placing limits on the cost of insulin, limits on medication for senior -- unlike Trump's repeated empty promises of a truly great medical plan that never existed and Republican congressmen's and senators' "repeal and replace" obsessed on repealing the ACA with nothing to replace it). Like finally getting infrastructure done (contrasted with Trump's endless stream "infrastructure weeks" which never accomplishing anything besides diverting attention away from his latest scandal and/or criminal activity). Like actually being able to speak and deliver a message (contrasted with Trump's incoherent rants in which he's stymied with words longer than two syllables, like "yesterday" (we saw him hitting the lectern with his fist in frustration at that difficult word) ). The one who was able to reunite our allies rather than make them turn away in disgust. The one who is able to actually lead. The one who is not a serial loser. The one who actually believes in America and the Constitution (contrasted with Trump, the traitor who tried to overthrow the government). Sorry this list is far short than it could be, but I just woke up and I haven't had breakfast yet.

I suspect it has more to do with a massive case of cognitive dissonance than it does cognitive deterioration. When you have to support a massive pile of lies you are going to have to say some crazy things. Trump forgot the first rule of holes a long time ago.

I think it is unfair to blame any president for normal business cycles of recessions and booms. These cycles are actually healthy for the economy. All we ask is that they don't make the cycles worse than they need to be. Bad deregulation is probably the best example of what not to do, such as the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act that paved the way for the 2008 crash.

My point, however, is that Joe is a bit too old to manage the complex geopolitical issues that this era requires. Honestly, though...I see few bright political heirs on the horizon. I would entertain DeSantis if he divorced himself from Trump.

I think that America needs to step back and fix itself before it attempts geopolitical alliances, but that's just my opinion. We made a big mistake when we took our priorities away from oil and gas. It is too soon to make the switch. There is no way that 90% of our population could even afford an electric car. How are people supposed to get to work in the meantime? And draining the strategic petroleum reserve is not a solution.

But when one party is trying to govern and improve the economy (ie, D) while the other (ie, R) is trying to destroy democratic institutions (like fair elections, the Constitution) and threaten to destroy the economy (eg, refuse to raise the debt ceiling if they don't get their way, destroy Social Security and Medicare, employ the same economic measures that PM-for-50-days Liz Truss had used to destroy the UK economy, support a coup to overthrow the government, be accessories after the fact to espionage and treason), then it is worse than ignorant to blithely say that "both sides are the same."
Both sides very clearly are not the same.

The problem is that the Fed is ultimately a political institution which means it is influenced more by how their actions will affect votes than it will affect the economy. We would be much better of letting recession happen while mitigating the how bad the recession gets. However, no administration wants a recession during their term, so they may enact policies that make a future recession even worse.
Excessive QT (Quantitative tightening) will overcorrect and plunge us into a recession. Indeed it will. It's a fine balance.
It is ignorant to assume that only one political party is truthful and has our best interests at heart while the other guys are spawns of satan. I fully agree that there are no angels in government. I just happen to lean towards the party that demonstrates a little bit of sanity instead of the party that is occupied by insane conspiracy theories.

My point, however, is that Joe is a bit too old to manage the complex geopolitical issues that this era requires. You act like the executive branch consists of only the President. The President is just the core of a larger entity - I think that Joe can get by "with a little help from his friends". Unlike Trump, who seemed to be unable to make use of the people around him (assuming they weren't also deplorables). The President doesn't have magical powers to combat "the invisible hand of the free market". OSLT. Moose ABE: Edited by Minnemooseus, : Left a two letter word out. Edited by Minnemooseus, : ABE
