So how would this useless tiny fraction of said gland confer a survival advantage to the snake?

I'm not a YEC; I'm an OEC. i know you're an OEC. but i was saying that none of us humans can comprehend or grok what BILLIONS actually means. we use math, but we have no feel for these gigous numbers. this means that when you wonder how a tooth could ever get hollow, you are showing that you are not really understanding BILLIONS of years. for all we know, perhaps there was stretch of time when they couldn't get enough calcium and then the offspring that had grooved or hollow teeth had a better chance to live long enough to reproduce enough times. So that lucky snake's parents lacked any connection between gland and fangs and then ... poof! ... said lucky snake was born with it all magically connected up? yes, if your "poof" took BILLIONS of years. the parents had already lots of connections and their parents had lots, but not quite as many and so on, stretched out over BILLIONS of years. and it would be impossible to find and declare the first such snake. couldn't put your finger on it. many snakes were getting very close, then some perhaps made it across a very imprecise definition of hollow venomous teeth. other scientists would differ over which ones were first, based on each of their own definitions.

Why then didn't the snake simply choose prey with softer skin? Incidentally, I never asked about how a snake evolved stronger fangs ... my query was about the evolution of hollow fangs.
