All that I can add is that if God exists, He is under no obligation to magically cure all of our sicknesses. Whatever will be will be.
An analogy.
I am standing on a sidewalk along a busy suburban road. I see two young children playing in a yard as I walk by. Suddenly, the children see a cute dog across the street, and they start running towards it. The mother starts screaming, asking me to grab the kids before they run out on the road. I just stare at the mother and do nothing as the kids run right by me. They are struck by a car and die, a car I could see coming. A car that I knew would strike the children if they ran out into the road.
Am I a moral person?

Perhaps the question, if one presupposes that GOD exists is what precisely is His job?
Make people doubt his existence and question his morality?
Oh, and before I forget, no thread on the problem of suffering is complete without Epicurus' Trilemma:
"If God is unable to prevent evil, then he is not all-powerful.
If God is not willing to prevent evil, then he is not all-good.
If God is both willing and able to prevent evil, then why does evil exist?"

The problem of evil is just not us recognizing the beauty of our dualistic reality and that there is a lot more good than evil in the world.
What about the Problem of Suffering? If God does care about us then why let people needlessly suffer?
If it did not happen, reproduction would have to eventually stop, as the world would become overpopulated.
An all powerful deity could not create a universe where overpopulation was not a problem?
What is heaven supposed to be like? Will heaven have disease, illness, and death? If not, then why does the Earth have to have these things?

God is an evil asshole or it doesn’t exist and we are at the mercy of the purposeless dispassionate natural world. I prefer the latter.
I lean towards the latter as well. The universe is indifferent to the fate of human kind. It cares as much about our suffering as it cares about the orbit of a moon around Jupiter. That seems to fit the universe I see better than the idea of a omnipotent deity who claims to care about us.
Can't help but think of George Carlin in moments like this:
quote:
“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!”
