Does anyone else think that for such a consistently gentle, constructive and generous contributor, Nosy's new avatar has a steely eyed glare and not quite successful attempt at a smile that is, well, just a tad terrifying?
Cheers -- Sylas

It's no less appetizing than your grainy prison mugshot, Sylas.
Sob. It was the only way I could hide the horrible truth. To demonstrate why I prefer using low resolution grainy photos something like ten years old, I shall (briefly) make a more recent Avatar available.
I propose to find a barbar sometime soon with a good pair of number ones. That'll fix it.

It is not a matter of "need" but a deliberate choice, and reflects my own strategies for engagement in this discussion.
None of this is intended to imply that everyone should use the same approaches. That would be boring. I love some of the avatars being used here.
However, when I came to make my own choice, I deliberately opted to use a photo.
I use the same avatar in other contexts as well; the idea is that it will help associate my contributions in other forums one with another. I'll be returning the the old grainy one here also; but made this change (and the comment on Ned's avatar) in a fit of levity.
Another reason for my choice to use a real picture is that the evolution/creationism discussion is often contentious; and my own personal aims are to keep it generally friendly and helpful. I think a real picture helps remind us of the real person writing the words.
I've deliberately chosen to use a pseudonym to keep my internet persona just a bit distinct from my off-line persona. I'm Sylas. But using a photo helps me come across as still being a full person.
In the end it is probably not particularly significant. But it is my deliberate choice and strategy for my own personal style of engagement.
Cheers -- Sylas

Yaro appears to be making a very creditable effort.
Which reminds me... is Yaro a real name, or is it just what she hears every time she walks past a building site?

I am deeply disturbed to see the name "Yaro" given in the Meaning of Baby Names as Son (origin: African)...

Re: OH!
I like the new avatar, Ned. It still has just a hint of mania intensity which I understand goes down well with the ladies.
I'm retaining my current avatar for a bit longer. [double entendre]It grows on me[ /double entendre].

An excellent reason to retain the avatar.
I wonder who is his barber?

Re: Topic Drift!!!!!!!
What's wrong with my avatar? You think you guys are the only ones who can have self-portraits???
Not at all. You are very attractive, and an excellent role model for monsters. By the way, I am given to understand that Ned is looking for a date.
Cheers -- Sylas

I remember judging a beauty queen contest. And I asked this girl what her job was and it was shorthand typist. And then for her measurements and she replied 48-22-30. I said "what do you do?" And she said "fall over!"
