Re: R E S P E C T
Personally, I never went through a bar phase so I never learned mixed drinks. Instead, my drinking is normally ale, red wine, or straight tequila, scotch (single-malt Islay), or bourbon.
My dad was a Scotch drinker so i developed a taste for single malts also, but I drink so little these days that I have several partial bottles that are over 10 years old (since they were opened).
In my early 20s I did the bar scene and tried lots of mixed drinks. Singapore Slings were one of my favorites but they were wicked.

Re: R E S P E C T
My friend, a tech writer, had done some bar waitressing in her past. One night while we waited for a table I went over to the bar to get us a couple glasses of wine. When I returned, she simply commented, "You haven't spent much time in bars, have you?" It was that obvious, I guess. Just about the only time I had spent in a bar had been for and supporting dance classes in a bar that had a dance floor. One night the teacher asked for me to order her a vodka and water telling me to ask for it out of the well ... then she had to explain well drinks to me. I was in my mid-60's before I had ever even heard of that, let alone learned about it.
I don't even know what to order when mixed drinks are called for. Last time with a drinks-dinner-dessert Meetup group for drinks I just ordered soda water since I knew that I was wanting wine with dinner. (I keep all my problem drinking at home)

Re: R E S P E C T
There are likely a few reasons why Nixon did what he did, decoupling the dollar from gold. This may be a clue:
different Taq writes:
The only reason gold Fiat Currencies have any value relative to their parental Central Banks at all is that the Central Bank in their region and/or the government backs the currency with assets, gold being one of them.
The full faith of the government in question is based in part on the value of their currency. Venezuela's economy spun out of control but the oil-backed national transactions allowed them to come out of it Russia's commodity resources (including the gold holdings of the Central bank) keep them from totally collapsing...though they are getting closer. International condemnation works against them in that they have nobody to trade with...yet. The reason Russia could not rescue the ruble with their gold is the pressure the US Central Bank (Federal Reserve) has in holding down the price....only to "protect" the dollar from hyperinflating. Its a giant chess game and a Ponzi Scheme in line with a future Black Swan Event.
The fact that you guys think the dollar will remain stable only because the rest of the world is also holding Fiat Currencies is ignorant.
Can oil and China help Russia survive Western sanctions? Counting the Cost

Once again you simply show either your total inability to understand anything anyone here has told you or your utter dishonesty.

I think you are probably correct. Plus being socially isolated while at the same time being a frontline worker through the pandemic has to have had an effect also.

Yes, I think that's right. I hope it means he is getting his diabetes under better control.

After Phat's apocalypse, I wonder if he thinks he can buy $1997 worth of goods with a 1-ounce gold coin?
Phat knows that the gold will rise (in value relative to fiat currencies)and that one ounce of gold (likely a more honest valuation)will for a time preserve wealth in dollars by rising with the tide. Its not a matter of $2000.00 in gold being worth x amount. Its a matter of the price of things relative to the price of gold. I likely would be able to trade 1 ounce of gold for perhaps $4000.00 worth of dollars. Food may, however, be scarce and may well cost $3000.00 for a basket that at one time cost $500.00. The time to buy items such as tools and durable goods is now. Not then.
1. What do you think the sequence of events would be if the economic calamity you fear happens?
I wouldn't call it a calamity just yet. More of a reset. A correction in the actual value of currencies.
1a. What are the banks going to do with their gold?
Keep it as a basis for launching a new digital currency. Only a fool would go with Crypto vs the time-honored hunk of metal.
1b. What are countries going to do with their gold?
Im not yet sure, but I imagine that they would hold onto it until a new global reserve is established.
2. What are you going to do with your gold? Say you have a quarter-sized piece of gold, what are you going to do with it?
I may try and sell it for a few loaves of bread for my family or for ringo and the bum under the bridge. He claims I don't ever do what Jesus suggests, so I will be asking the Lord what to do at that point in time. Most likely it will be insurance for my family's money...which will either inflate, deflate, or collapse along with everyone else.
And do you realize that the price is entirely artificial because those gold bullion hoarding entities keep it squirreled away from the economies? If it was all flowing through the planet's economies it wouldn't be worth squat.
The price is being suppressed to defend the US Dollar. A foolish move but too late to stop.

Well, thanks for giving it a go. I'm still no wiser to the function of gold as anything more than a placeholder. The artificial scarcity induced over valuation just looks like a marketing scam the same as that with diamonds. Like they say, there's a sucker born every minute.

Re: Anti-semitism to boot
Your prejudice ...
Let’s start a fight.
What is wrong with describing his endocrinologist as a smart Jewish doctor? Yes, it is ethnic-based but not harmfully so. For all we know the endocrinologist and his proud Jewish mother refer to him the same way. The stereotype is a harmless ubiquitous meme in society. Seinfeld had lots of them. To object, in my opinion, is a social sensitivity gone too far and is harmful to society. To embrace the innocent humor of the meme in our society is healthy.
Loudspeaker in main cabin: Is there are doctor on board?
Jewish Mother: That could have been you.
Man: Ma, now’s not really the time.
JM: You could have been the one to answer.
M: Please, Ma, there’s an emergency going on.
JM: Did they call for a graphic designer? No.
M: Not now, Ma. Please!
JM: What would you do? Save him as a pdf to see if that helps?
