Re: The Larger Picture
Only for a very short time. No need for humans to do simple stuff like programming. Let Watson do it.

a bite off the Apple
Fortunately the Budgie desktop can be made to look like an Apple desktop but you can still actually do stuff.
I've been known to build computers for some kids that can't afford them and they seem to like the Apple look so often I install the Ubuntu Budgie desktop. It has tools that will even handle most of the Appleized formats but that are also real world compatible.

Re: Planetary Defense
If you observe examples of demolition you would know that it always succeeds and that it successfully breaks everything up into uniform size pieces.
The secret is to use high quality CGI.

Our challenge as critics and supporters is to find consensus.
It is impossible to find consensus when a whole population has been taught how to not think and to avoid reality or honesty and instead to worship and glorify fantasy and incomprehension.

Ideologies are for those too lazy to even try to learn; but it does keep the Apologists, Snake Oil Salesmen and Carny Barkers phat and rich.

We also need to watch out for false prophets who claim that God and Jesus are human-created characters in a book and that one can be a good Christian simply by being an empathetic humanist.
Jesus was an empathetic humanist. It was Luke and Mark and Matthew and John that were the Primal Apologists marketing what they created. Since them it has all been nothing but carny barkers.
You and most of modern Christianity are simply pathetic GOATS.

Re: JWST Launch Success
IMHO the most dangerous part was negotiating the political and societal demands needed just to get the sucker to the launch pad.

releasing captured carbon-dioxide
Almost every morning I enjoy releasing captured carbon-dioxide back into the atmosphere.
Blame me if you must but I will still fix my coffee in the morning.

making a Pesto for tonight's dinner.
Tonight, I'll fix pasta with Pesto and bake a baguette to eat with butter and a 4-leaf balsamic vinegar.

Yup.
And McAllen just elected its first Republican Mayor in an area that has been traditionally liberal democratic.
The entrance to the butterfly center is just a few miles from my house. We've been seeing more and more MGA car trains disrupting elections and local events over the last four years down here.
But while a common characteristic of south Texas, particularly the Rio Grande Valley, is public sex near year-round it has always been only of the plant cults. Pollen allergy is a true pitch and I see no reason they can't just get a motel room.

T-Mobile 5g Home Internet
So today I switched from Spectrum Cable Internet to T-Mobiles 5g Home Internet. I had some reservations since I was getting speeds nearest the current modem of about 300 MB/s (400 was advertised as max) download but I am getting similar speeds with the 5G Home Internet.
What REALLY surprised me is that I'm getting over 50MB/s UPLOAD connections regularly. And this is at a time when T-Mobile says there is an issue at the tower I connect to that will take 24-72 hours to get resolved.
Best of all, it is about half the cost that I was paying Spectrum and during the great outage last year I still had cell service when the Spectrum Cable line was down.

I loved Puerto Rico
Loved Puerto Rico in the early 1970s. I was working for the Sea Pines Company designing cable system for their resorts so had to fly down pretty regularly when the Palmas Del Mar property was just getting started. I stayed in the upstairs apartment of a couple when over at the site. They had two kids (a boy about ten and girl maybe 12 or 13) and a hillside home looking off over the ocean. The husband had been a cabby in NYC and he and his wife spoke English with a Brooklyn accent while their two kids spoke only Spanish. With the kids though, a smile, a baseball and my very limited Spanish was all that was needed.
I was invited to have dinner with them one evening which generally meant great eats, a few grapefruit from one of the threes and liberal doses of Don Q but from the kids excitement it seemed this might be truly special.
And it was.
When I returned from the property the two kids met me with the baseball, an extra glove and the daily ritual began. Then the young boy took off, very excited and ran to the house returning with a brown paper bag and ...

... dinner; the loser from the prior nights cockfight.
The Toronja Q's were fantastic.
