My wife would tell me not to confront him with stuff that he's forced to reject but to keep talking to him on about anything else.
That seems like good advice.
He is probably at a stage where he resents being told anything by an older person. He's at the "don't trust anybody over 20" stage.
The best hope is that he might get some good advice from someone of his own age. That may only be a weak hope, but best to avoid building up the resentment.
