If this Y2K thing was such a yawner then why is Sarah generating all this smoke and fire over a non-issue?
I wonder, I do. I wonder about this like I wonder about other things.
I can't wait for what comes next. Enquiring minds want to know. Attentive ones may know already.

Re: Made for TV and denier distortions
That may be all well and good but it hasn’t happened so the hype was staged to further a political agenda, scare governments into curbing our only real homegrown power sources, coal, oil and gas. Cheap, reliable with an already built infrastructure and enough to keep hitting the bottom line every quarter for decades yet to come.
I know it’s hot in Phoenix today (41oC) but it is also -66oC at Amundsen-Scott Station and last time I checked both are part of this same world, this same globe, so, so much for “global” warming.

... it helps if you're accurate, rather than hyperbolic.
You mean like reason people out of their comfort zone ideas that climate change is a hoax? It's the sun, it's natural, burn baby burn is ok? Who needs spiders and wasps anyway? My 401k is full of big carbon cuz that's the best? It's slow and there's plenty of time?
Well, people can't be reasoned out of ideas they weren't reasoned into in the first place.
Message 118
So scare the shit out of the stupid ones. They're going to watch it happening eventually anyway.

It's coming for you!
If it helps get dumb peoples’ attention then hyperbole can be quite effective.
Populations that are scared can lead to major social movements. Just ask the dictators past and present.
Our global crisis is worse than we thought and deteriorating faster than we thought. People should be scared.
Hyperbolic catastrophic climate dystopian memes need to be all the rage. If the fear engulfs the sheeple to the point of action then maybe we can forestall the worst of this for a few more centuries. Dystopian propaganda to the rescue. Thank you, Dr. Goebbels.
There should be an established funded international Bureau of Hyperbole: Climate Division for funding dystopian disaster flix in Hollywood, Bollywood and all points in between. Propaganda pushes in textbooks, movies, videos, memes, tons of memes and then more memes. Scare the ever-loving’ crap out of people.
Yeah, it intellectually hurts, but with the shape we’re presently in we gotta try everything.
Now is the time for each to find their own motivations. You are a secondary character in a dystopian apocalyptic horror movie. Act like it.

But if the scary things you say turn out to be untrue, then you've shot yourself in the foot, haven't you?
Then we will have saved the environment and humanity for nothing?
What a bummer that would be.

Re: Movie Quote
Ok, I'm in a depressed mood but, ringo, thank you for give this old man the sweet remembrance of a past once forgotten.
Homer may be famous for it but I used it before Groening even knew how to spell Homer.
I would tease the little girls that with all I had to learn that week my brain had to cast off ballast and I feared in the wreckage I would lose the memory of her sweet attentions. She would kiss the leaking memories back into my head, my eyes, my nose, my lips.
Thank you, ringo.
So very much thank you.

Ideas For Sale
If you shoot yourself in the foot by making predictions that turn out to be alarmist hype, people won't change their behavior and you've endangered the environment.
You haven’t looked at American society.
These are Americans. For so many of them if you lie to them they stay lied to. They’re too stupid to change. That’s why we have an anti-vax problem, a flat earth problem, a religion problem and a republican party problem. There are even people here that still believe Richard Nixon was not a crook.
This is a feature of whole segments of American society. Truth and reality don’t matter. Their unshakable faith in what they can be made to believe is all they will ever recognize. If you tell these dweebs (early enough and often enough) that with climate change they are in grave personal danger, they will see grave personal danger everywhere. Some prediction that didn’t quite pan out … yet … will not alter their view. No foot, no shooting.
I would rather use that super power for good than for stupid. Scare the crap out of them until they become avid climate warriors.

So, what do you think, is it useful in dealing with such people to cry wolf?

But global warming predictions that turned out to be inaccurate are problematic in any case.
You are not talking about the accuracy of the science of global warming. You are talking about the perception of some emotionally charged claims in a politically charged atmosphere. You’ve been through some of them. Your objections are all bunk.
None of your problems with climate change predictions can be considered serious since the actual scientific predictions are still 100-200 years out, and longer.
You argue short term visuals rather than long term actuals. Though even today you have to be blind to not see the start of some very unwelcome changes.
Not that it matters much any more. The science is increasingly showing that our meager mitigation efforts are woefully ineffective. Doesn’t matter how each battle goes. We are losing this war.

if you're caught crying wolf, even unintentionally, the consequences could be problematic.
Wolf! Wolf! Lions! Tigers! Bears! Dragons! Help carbon!
Sarah, They are all sticking their noses and toes in our tent, now! Today!
The consequences are already well known and they are not problematic. They are lethal. Deadly. Extinction level for humanity. That's why the rest of us are screaming STOP!
We can't scream any louder! Climate change! Monsters!
Wolf! Help wolf! It's gonna eat us! Help! Wolf!
If you can't hear and see them drooling at the door then YOU are the fucking problem.
[abe]
You want some known consequences of the coming events?
If we don't DRASTICALLY drop carbon emissions by 2050 then wolves, lions, tigers, bears, and most mammalia, will be dragged into extinction along with us. That is the coming trigger point; the lethal cliff we are charging at head on.
