May it be, that he found his answers in the end...
My condolences go out to robin's family and friends.
I might not have agreed with Robin on everything, but he certainly was a unique member of this place, and i am saddened by his passing.

Those of you who you don't mind the odd drop of alcohol; the next time you "remember the dead", don't forget to pour a drop for Robin too.

RIP.

Thanks for letting us know, Faith.

Sir Rob, the Jouster
Many thanks, Faith, for letting us know.
Although I only crossed swords with Rob a couple of times, you knew you couldn`t take him cheaply. Even when it finished, you kept looking over your shoulder for a incisive comment. He seemed a complex person, varying from his celebrated humorous insight into the main posters at EvC (The Play), to a mood where he seemed to be searching his depths. As many of us do. But I can`t recall him ever losing his cool under assault, and that must add to the strength of a man. Vale, Rob, wherever you go. I know you will make life interesting to your neighbours.

Because I did not know him personally I feel sort of cheap writing about him. I don't have anything grand to say anyway. Yet I felt terrible hearing he died, and so feel a compulsion to say something, especially as he has given so much thought to me...

Holmes, Crashfrog, and Randman--what more could a satirist want?

What more can a character want than his satirist?

Ironically I read of his death while looking for something to boost my spirits at EvC, because a main character on a series I was watching died. Not the actor, the character. The tv episode was all very emotional and I was looking for escape from the weight of that fictional death only to find worse in reality.

I suppose in a way a main character has died on this show, who also happened to be one of the writers. Unlike others who have stopped posting, and so "left the show", we are certain this one won't be coming back to the program (except as a ghost writer?).

I hope that his passing was not too painful, I hope that he knew that he would be remembered well. I wish his family the best. And finally, I wish his constituent atoms equal success in their future careers as they had making up RR.

Providing his nihilistic position is true and ultimately he will not be remembered forever, at the very least he was not forgotten while he lived.

After spending a glorious day on the River yesterday I return to find this news. How very sad. It makes me appreciate, even that much more, the things I love. A day on my bike...fly fishing...walking in the woods with my wife and da pooch.

For me, his "Play" will always be one of the most enjoyable post(s) I have even read here.

Thanks for letting us know, Faith.

I've crossed swords with Robin several times, sometimes good-naturedly, sometimes fractiously. I'll miss his arguments and his piss-taking.

In a way it's a shame that his family don't know about this virtual world where his virtual self is being remembered. Maybe in the future, as this kind of community becomes more common, it will become second nature - the way you inform the friends of someone who has died - to inform virtual friends and acquaintances.

I'll have a glass to Robin tonight, although as a Wednesday Evening Abstentionist himself, I'm sure he wouldn't have approved .

His wife has seen EvC

I know from this post that his wife was shown this place by Robin himself. I hope she finds the courage to check it out. Maybe what is said here about Robin could provide some consolation.

Look to this day, For yesterday is already a dream. And tomorrow only a vision. But today We lived, makes every Yesterday a dream of Happiness and every tomorrow A vision of hope. Look well there to This day.

Wow.

Thanks for posting this here Faith. I'm glad Robin found a good friend here with you. Best wishes to you and Robin's family.

What a shock.

Where words fail me...
To die, to sleep--
No more--and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause.

This one is for you, and a little one to follow it for the next generation

whoa...
That sucks.

I liked robinrohan, even though his logic was ridiculous, and will miss him and his posts.

Considering his real life and family, I was wondering if they have read his posts. Like crash said, sometimes people posts from an alternate version of themselves (I most certainly do). I wonder if his family would want to know what robinrohan has posted or if they would be saddened by it. They might learn something about him that they didn’t know, and that could be a good thing. Para linked to where he said his wife was familiar with the site. I would like to read a post from her.

From the last conversation I had with robinrohan:

quote:
As regards the plausibility of having a soul, might your reasoning go something like this?

I have a private experience of consciousness/mind/thoughts/feelings/self-identity (i.e., soul).

If this private experience is some sort of illusion, then it is a very powerful one. It seems to be something incorporeal, not physical. If incorporeal, then it's hard to see how it could have evolved. It's hard to see how something incorporeal could evolve from something corporeal.

Something along those lines?

Well, I don't know that that's implausible. It sounds plausible. And if we go a step further, we might think, "Suppose this 'soul' is incorporeal. Where did it come from? If it didn't in some strange way evolve from a corporeal thing, it must have come from an incorporeal thing. But the only thing we know of that might be incorporeal is our minds (soul). But we are not things: we are beings. So perhaps this incorporeality came from an incorporeal Being."

robinrohan is missed

/cry

Time to meet the real Robin
I've been corresponding with a teacher at his school who says she'd be happy to talk about him here although she didn't know him particularly well. I gave her the link so she may join us. And she gave me a link to a memorial website where there are pictures and tributes to Robin, and the opportunity to respond if anyone would like to.
