Re: Oh Crap...
Masks and other personal protective equipment were in short supply 2 years ago for the general population as well as healthcare workers.
This time around, anti-mask idiots are plentiful.

Yep, I'm not surprised after watching the American Shit Show for the past few years, but I'm still baffled at how wide spread this odd behavior pattern is. Apparently, 50% of American adults have a rabid fear of face masks and their response has been hysterical, and their elected representatives have an hysterical fear of that hysteria.
My wife orders all our groceries online and picks them up curbside and says she never wants to change back. I have made some quick in and out shopping for 1 or 2 items and in the grocery store and home improvement stores and every person was masked.
The schools here are all mask mandated and my granddaughter says her school her high school is 100% compliant.
I keep thinking what works and what does not will be glaringly obvious to even the most obtuse, but it is glaringly obvious that I am wrong.

Viral Trivia
Omicron is an anagram of moronic.
The next in turn Greek letter for the naming of a new variant was Xi, but as that's the name of the Chairman of the Chinese Party, Xi Jinping, it was skipped.

Red Counties Have Far Higher Covid Death Rates
Pro-Trump counties now have far higher COVID death rates : Shots - Health News : NPR, reports NPR. Here's a scatter plot showing declining vaccination rates and increasing death rates the more a county voted for Trump:
Congregating indoors while not wearing masks or getting vaccinated isn't a death sentence. It just increases your likelihood of death by about three times.

I find it fascinating how many scientific studies this virus and the pandemic have generated.
There seem to be significant numbers of patients, with symptoms from serious down to mild, who have serious damage to various organs including heart, lungs, brain, and the rest of the nervous system.
I read a few weeks ago that some of the damage to nasal tissue causing loss of smell, heals in some patients, but the connections between sensory cells and nerves may get scrambled, so some scent molecules trigger the wrong smell. Shuddering!
I may be wrong but it seems like this is the most complex disease that humans have encountered in our historical times.

News: Unvaccinated in Arizona 15.2 times more likely to die than vaccinated.
3.9 times more likely to get the virus.
That is Arizona.
No details about race or ethnicity or party affiliation.
I did not see any.
Nationwide, it seems only 60% of Repubkicans have been vaccinated, while 91% of Democrats have.
Republican voters tend to be older (especially when looking at the white population), so they will be more likely to die of Covid.
(Younger black males are the more Republican-voting, among their racial fellows, but that aside...)
Republicans are looking shitty in the first (world wide) big Coronavirus crisis of our century. About the only thing Democrats have going for them, politically speaking. (Trump is the only other thing Democrats have "going for them", but he might almost be a relative wash, but not quite. Give Democrats 2 things to gloat about ... sort of)

So what if Republicans are killing off their voters? They've got that covered. They are busy rigging the elections so that even with a much smaller number of votes they can still cheat and get their people into office.

ORe: A Lab Origin for SARS-CoV-2
One thing that has been found is that they found earlier infections, and they all were associated with one specific wet market.
