The Coming Republican Apocolypse
One might think that I should have titled this message The Coming Conservative Apocolypse, but the Republican party has diverged significantly from true conservatism. When George Will says the Republicans no longer embody conservative principles you have to pay attention.
The Virginia and New Jersey governor races reveal that the Republicans have found a winning formula that should keep them in power for decades. The formula involves lies about Democrats and liberalism that get the masses boiling mad and out to the polls. "The election was stolen" (it wasn't) and "They're teaching Critical Race Theory in our public schools" (they're not, and what would be wrong with that, anyway) and "Our cities are descending into chaos because they're under attack by liberal forces like Antifa and BLM, and only more guns and more law and order can fix it" (not that cities don't have problems, but this is pure scaremongering), and "Covid is just an excuse for Democrats to carry out their authoritarian agenda that takes away our freedoms" (lockdowns and mask/vaccine mandates are public health measures that save lives).
The Democrats have nothing to counter these very effective appeals that result in a highly motivated electorate. The Democrats will lose the House and Senate in 2022 and the presidency in 2024. Biden might get the chance to nominate a single Supreme Court justice, but the opportunity had better arise before the 2022 elections or it won't happen. Once Mitch McConnell is back in charge of the Senate then no Biden nominees will be considered in the second half of his term. The Republicans will wait until Trump or Desantis is in office.
Republicans will soon control all branches of government as well as a majority of state governorships and legislatures, and then we'll find ourselves largely ruled by government that is driven by delusions, lies and conspiracy theories. By 2030 we'll be saying, "It did happen here."

Re: The Coming Republican Apocolypse
How is it that Republicans are a minority and yet have that much political influence?? First of all they are not as appealing as they used to be. Second they will never let go of Trump.
Wht cant the Democrats find a candidate that conservatives could grow to like?

a large percentage of the population simply does not or will not actually think
The issue is that a large percentage of American Eligible Voters have been educated to NEVER think and to place SOURCE over content, FANTASY over reality and BELIEF over evidence.
They have been indoctrinated to become Feste.

Republicans use voter suppression, like axing names from voter lists, reducing places where people of color can vote, which makes for very long lines and - of course - the Electoral College, a fossil from the landowner phase of this country that rewards large, nearly empty rural states. Along with other vile things.
Democrats want to CHANGE this and conservatives, who are against changes, like things just the way they are/were in the 1950's. Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Insurance - all HUGE contributors to the Reptiles - have stacked congress against change and have even written legislation to keep it funneling money from everyone to the top 1%, damn whoever dies as a result. Some Democrats also take their money, but not every single one of them, unlike the Reptile party.
The Reptile Party has NEVER been appealing to me. I think I voted once for a Reptile, Francis Sargent over Mike Dukakis for Governor and lost.

But that would require someone named Jimmy Wales to exist, and what are the odds of that, and so we must limp off into the future ignorant and uninformed.

Hey Zongsmith! Can you tell me how much "Big Pharma" costs us?
Dr Howard Dean, around 10(14) years ago, attempted to inform the ignorant slogan-swallowers
Prescription drugs were 10% of the total health care costs.
The,then, 20% profit margin amounted to a grand total of - get this- 2% of all health care costs.
And the scientific work, from drug research, led to saved lives galore.
Educate yourself about the multiverse.
(I swear my spelling check DVD I'd that. I was about to type world)
You old age white man.

Re: Hey Zongsmith! Can you tell me how much "Big Pharma" costs us?
I suspect the price complaints are about a single drug price.
You can't take overall prescription drug healthcare costs simply on a look at profits brought by a single drug. You have to look at overall profits for the company that produces the products.
Ending all profits on prescription drugs will make little to no difference in overall healthcare costs.

LNA argues:
Ending all profits on prescription drugs will make little to no difference in overall healthcare costs.
change that to
Ending all EXCESSIVE profits on prescription drugs will make little to no difference in overall healthcare costs.
That may be, but the journey to the End Days of the "Whatever the Market Will Bear" criminal concept has to begin *somewhere*.
Whether it's Insulin, or Epipens, or you name it, it must end as a moral rubric, because it is immoral, and a form of Extortion.
And remember - insurance companies are always looking for a way to DENY coverage. They are NOT on our side.
Overall healthcare costs here in the USA are flat-out CRIMINAL!
