Today's scripture reading isn't.
I have cajoled one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Ego I believe, into giving us some excellent insight. Now come on folks, just because he's a dickhead on some important things doesn't mean he isn't right on others. OK. No blind links. Summarized here in my own words followed by the source. The bible sucks. Over to you, Sam.

Why not have J.Noble Daggett ride in on that horse while he comes to pay Rooster Cognurn!

Just how the FUCK is this J. Noble Dagget and just what the FUCK doe he have to do with anything at FUCKING at all?
Wasn't he once one of the recepticals of RedJack, the murdering entity also known as "Jack the Ripper" (Wolf in the Fold)? My ex-wife's family had a Trivial Pursuit tradition. If you had no idea what the answer was, you'd respond with "Godzilla." Actually, years later in a later edition, that was the actual correct answer, but to quote from the movie, "Irma La Douce", (translating from German, which is the only language I've ever seen that movie in), "That is another story." ("Das ist eine andre Geschichte."). So then you have a similar personal tradition. If you have no idea how to answer a question, you invoke "J. Nobel Daggett". WHy? WHO THE FUCK CARES? Just so long as you can divert our attention away from the actual question, you are just pleased as punch! YOU FUCKING LYING PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Hush! J.Noble Daggett was a character in the 1969 movie True Grit. He was the lawyer that protected little matties interests and he made an appearance near the end of the movie. The humor is the fact that John Fiedler, who played the character in 1969, was very similar to AZ Pauls "Mr.Deity".
John Fiedler in True Grit:
Mr. Deity:
"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.- Dr.John Lennox The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a 'what' created the universe; the theist believes a 'who' created the universe.- Criss Jami, Killo The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him. So what? Leonard Nimoy even wrote a book, "I Am Not Spock", trying to break out of being typecast. A character is a character, not the person portraying that character.
Mr. Deity is a character who is distracted and not very competent. That does not mean that Brian Keith Dalton, who portrays Mr. Deity, is the same. Nor does that mean that Dalton's other videos (eg, The Way of the Mister) has him playing that same inept character. For that matter, your "J.Noble Daggett" references have all been to "The Way of the Mister" videos and never (to my knowledge) to any "Mr. Deity" videos. Until right now. Therefore, you are engaging in deliberate character assassination. How very Christian of you! The two Way of the Mister videos which you poo-poo'd aside with obscure J.Noble Daggett references did make some very good points, points that you wished to avoid, hence your deflection. Didn't you understand what he was saying? In the future, how's about you address the issues instead of deflecting with obscure movie references?

Ok, dwise1, Phat,
We'll do a compromise. I was going to post a 1 hr vid and short analysis of Christopher Hitchens dissing god in the extreme, as Hitch does. Instead, I'll hold that for another Sunday Sermon and, if there are no objections, go with a couple Way Of The Mister, part 1 and part 2, vids, back to back, that I've been saving for an appropriate spot to come along to fit them in. That way Phat gets to resurrect his J.Noble Daggett schtick in complaint and dwise1 gets to kick Phat in the ass again. We all have fun. That's win-win.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Thanks, AZPaul3. Ive actually listened to a few of the Way Of The Mister episodes myself and will say that the guy makes some logical arguments. More "logical" than many of the apologists who begin (as do I) with the initial premise that God exists and then attempt to defend it. I am finding out that it is hard to do and that a loyal critical thinker would be unafraid to "throw God away" in the pursuit of truth. Which leads me now to believe that critical thinkers never settle for any absolute...they keep on going. So a question: IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE A BELIEVER AND A STRONG CRITICAL THINKER?

I was curious. So I watched this long video.
I certainly see your point...and am actually impressed with Daltons presentaton. Being an ex-Mormon, Dalton never really knew Jesus Christ as my group claimed to know Him, but as I watched more of what Dalton said (around 18 minutes in untill 25 minutes) I realized that he has a great argument. Very logical and persuasive. Of course it is. But that depends on what you believe and how honest you are about what you believe. I'm a believer. Even more, I am a life long Christian believer. But I also understand that I am a life long Christian believer because I was born into a Christian family, raised in a Christian society and educated in a Christian school. I understand that it is a path not a "TRUTH". I understand that my belief is not reasonable, rational or logical. I understand that had I not been born into a Christian family, raised in a Christian society and educated in a Christian school I might still be a believer but in a whole different set of beliefs and paths. My Website: My Website

I am finding out that it is hard to do and that a loyal critical thinker would be unafraid to "throw God away" in the pursuit of truth. It may be better to start from a position of faith and discard the idea that belief in God is logical (at least in a formal sense). That isn't to say that your beliefs are false, only that they aren't logical.
Which leads me now to believe that critical thinkers never settle for any absolute...they keep on going. So a question: IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE A BELIEVER AND A STRONG CRITICAL THINKER? Yes, just as long as the strong critical thinker isn't critical of everything they believe. We aren't computers or Vulcans. We are humans. Being human means believing in irrational and illogical things at times. This is why I respect peoples' religious beliefs, even if I don't believe them myself. We are all human, and part of being human is picking your own path through life. I celebrate the fact that we live in a pluralist society that supports and defends religious freedoms. Where the wires get crossed up is when theists come to us atheists and tell us that there are logical and rational arguments for the existence of their deity. When you see one eyebrow raise you will know that you are in for an intellectual tussle. If theists come to me and say something similar to what jar says above, I ask them if I can buy them a beer and start talking about the local ball team.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE A BELIEVER AND A STRONG CRITICAL THINKER? Well, if one is a critical thinker then how does one not critically think on belief? Then again, max critical thinking equals analysis paralysis? So, I can see where levels of critical thinking might be. What is strong critical thinking vis--vis some other level?
Which leads me now to believe that critical thinkers never settle for any absolutes Ok, an absolute statement saying critical thinkers never settle for any absolutes. Most absolutely I can support that.
I am finding out that it is hard to do and that a loyal critical thinker would be unafraid to "throw God away" in the pursuit of truth. Whoa, down there big fella! Keep this up and you'll be applying reason and logic to your basic beliefs. Soon after that you may see a different kind of light. If you get a hankering for the taste of baby let me know. Someone who believes there is a GOD or GODs or Spiritual Force.
Personally I believe there is a GOD, creator of all that is, seen and unseen, that there is life after death and that we will be judged based on our behavior while alive. My Website: My Website
