Re: Trump Acquitted
Also you mentioned Moynihan.
I have long argued that he was a racist. Granted, I have always been both anti CIA and anti Neo Con.
It is now proven, on tape, that Moynihan claimed that it was a scientific fact that blacks are inferior to whites in intelligence.
I was arguing against such a thing as far back as the age of 12. Lots of stories there.
Moynihan spoke of facts, but he was just a slick anti-third-world CIA thug, with an slick, phoney, "intellectual" facade.

Response to the relevant part of Phat's post.
You quoted me saying that Trump is unique in his record-setting disagreements with his own party, and I was referring back to the 2015-2016 period as the most ferociously fought period.
Your response didn't seem to catch my point.
MY POINT:
The Senate trial will be packed with a Republican Senate caucus that has more (political) reasons to convict him than even the Democratic caucus. ( I was not saying that Democrats won't take the stale political road, mind you. I knew they would vote to convict in even higher numbers)
I was saying that an acquittal would actually mean something. Which is rarely the case, in a chamber that is so divided (every 2 years since 1966-67 broke the Democratic supermajority) along loyal partisans of both parties.

Re: Response to the relevant part of Phat's post.
I have been wondering if the national situation is comparable to the swamp Sarah Palin cleaned up in Alaska.
She managed to take out the entire (very corrupt) leadership of her party in Alaska. With the exception of the lone survivor, Lisa Murkowski.
It gave Murkowski a chance to reinvent herself as an opponent of extremism.
Do you see a parallel between Alaska and Washington D.C.?
(Liz Cheney and Mitt the Twitt are suddenly champions of the people?)
I am just waiting for Dick Cheney to ride into Washington D.C., on a white horse, ready to "save" us all from the "foreign threats" (Bush 43 did not take his advise to bomb Iran, and Hillary was quite excited to "save us" from peaceniks like Bush 43 and Obama), to the cheer of Senate Democrats as they throw flowers at every gallop.
Edited by LamarkNewAge, : No reason given.

Re: Critical thinking warning: Don't let politicians conflate protesting with violence.
The Central Americans you talk about are from the same Central America we violently interfered in. The CIA dropped bombs, in 1954, on the Guatemalan capital, to drive out the democratically elected leader, Jacobo Arbenz, from Guatemala, because he gave millions of acres of land to peasants. He was, of course, called a communist, but he sided with the U.S. position, often, during U.N. votes.
The nation suffered from horrific dictators for many decades after 1954, with hundreds of thousands of deaths due to the situation.
Why should we have a problem with people dropping in here, when we dropped bombs there?
Best to keep policy out of this discussion. I have heard enough crap from the others, here, to know that they will gladly post bomb a bunch of policy babble. There will, then, be no more good discussions here.

Re: Critical thinking warning: Don't let politicians conflate protesting with violence.
Better to start a new thread covering guns, Covid, immigration, etc.
You started your policy talk by saying Democrats are counting on the media not mentioning gun control proposals ( typically, Democrats shout from the rooftops about gun control, honestly), so that could be one thread.
You mentioned the fact that poor Central Americans are coming here for opportunities. Start a thread on that or combine it with guns. (I wonder if you could try to understand that we interfered violently in the internal affairs of Central America, and we took land from peasants and gave it to the United Fruit Company, and the poor people never got it back. It is an issue for TODAY)
You said that the media blew Covid out of proportion ( ares you saying that the virus can spread without mutating into something far deadlier?)
Another single thread, at least, for these 3 policy discussions, is called for.

Re: Critical thinking warning: Don't let politicians conflate protesting with violence.
The thread seems to be a de facto impeachment thread.
Political views confuse the very legal context we are in.
