Implications In Human Development?
Sorry I just now saw this. I hope I put the topic in an appropriate forum.
quote:
We examined the intensively fractured rock at significant depth in the crater and noted tiny crystals of calcium carbonate and sulfide in the fractures, said lead author Dr. Henrik Drake, a researcher in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the Linnaeus University.
When we analyzed the chemical composition within these crystals it became clear to us that they formed following microbial activity.
Specifically, the relative abundance of different isotopes of carbon and sulfur within these minerals tells us that microorganisms that produce and consume the greenhouse gas methane have been present, and also microbes that reduce sulfate into sulfide. These are isotopic fingerprints for ancient life.(...)
Detailed understanding of microbial colonization of impact craters has wide-ranging astro-biological implications, added co-author Dr. Magnus Ivarsson, from the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
Are they saying that the microbes came from elsewhere than earth? Im not clear on that part...

Re: Implications In Human Development?
On a somewhat related topic, I read that because of global warming the arctic permafrost is melting and potentially releasing lots of previously frozen virus, bacteria, and ancient goop that could infect living things again. Is this in any way true?

It's The Methane,Stupid
Ahhh yes. Global warming. The Science based Leftist counterpart to the Right Wing CCoI Antichrist, False Prophets, Spiritual War, Armageddon scenario. And you guys have science on your side! I still predict that the supernatural (AKA The Unexplained) will become evident in the next few years. Of course you will pass it off as a delusion and fantasy just as many right wingnuts pass off global warming as a fantasy. The difference is that you have science on your side while all we have is subjective shared experience.
This is why I drive down the middle of the road and try not to be too extreme either way.
AddByEdit: But for the record, I do believe that global warming is real.

Re: What's real?
Ned writes:
Just what do you think is "real" about global warming?
The science is quite clear regarding inevitable rise in sea levels over the next century. The stats line up, in other words.
Knowing their knack for investing, I think that Republicans who publicly deny global warming are even now buying up the real estate where the sea levels will rise to.

Re: It's The Methane,Stupid
You can claim to know this but I disagree with your grasp of the situation.
1) You have no belief nor subjective evidence of the Holy Spirit. Yet the Holy Spirit *is* reality. Not that you will ever see it.
2) Perhaps you can logically argue that we all have our own experience...which is true, but the fact that so many of our experiences are very similar in detail...down to the little things...is to me subjective evidence. We dont simply internalize and repeat each others stories...we have our own and they are external experience rather than internal imagination. But again....you likely refuse to accept nor understand.
As long as your individual experiences disagree with reality, you pretend you're all together but all you really share is a hatred for reality.
This is one of the most blatant and ignorant statements that you have ever said. Just because your conclusions were what they were is in no way indicative that *you* understand reality.

Re: It's The Methane,Stupid
You are right---it doesn't. I went off topic right after Nosy Ned.
My apologies. We were discussing methane and permafrost melt, which is somewhat on topic.
Does our resident dragonfly expert have anything to add regarding perhaps dead bugs, microbes and what is found deep in the earths crust?
Here is where we went off course. Message 15
