I can’t rule out the possibility of there being something nasty out there, but it doesn’t seem a huge risk.
Compared to the risk from the methane that will be released the risks from microbes and viruses should be relatively minor.

I can't imagine that microbes from thawing arctic permafrost would pose any more risk to humans than microbes from the Congo or anywhere else.
It reminds me of a line from "The Jerk"; "enough of these old wines, bring me some NEW wines".
Enough of those old viruses and microbes; bring me some NEW viruses and microbes.
Any microbes or viruses from thawing permafrost will be viruses and microbes that it's likely humans have experienced before and so may have some immunity to any ill effects. But now them NEW viruses and microbes might be a whole different story.

Re: It's The Methane,Stupid

You have no belief nor subjective evidence of the Holy Spirit. Yet the Holy Spirit *is* reality. Not that you will ever see it.
If that were true Phat you would be able to show verifiable evidence of its existence but neither you or anyone else has ever been able to do so!
And THAT is reality!
Phat writes:
Perhaps you can logically argue that we all have our own experience...which is true, but the fact that so many of our experiences are very similar in detail...down to the little things...is to me subjective evidence. We dont simply internalize and repeat each others stories...we have our own and they are external experience rather than internal imagination.
As does every Hindu and Satanist and Muslim and Jew and ...
You seem to be unable to understand what evidence is.

As long as your individual experiences disagree with reality, you pretend you're all together but all you really share is a hatred for reality.
This is one of the most blatant and ignorant statements that you have ever said. Just because your conclusions were what they were is in no way indicative that *you* understand reality.
Unfortunately Phat you are just showing your willful disregard for reality when you say something as silly as that.
