Exactly. You will know them by their fruit. Trump supporters have joined the ranks of Amway salesman and Flat Earthers. I can respect a conservative, even if we disagree on policy. However, Trump supporters have lost all touch with reality which makes it rather difficult to discuss things like facts.
My response to Trump supporters: have more rope.

What’s useful is that swing voters can get to see this sort of stuff. Who, amongst those swing voters, would feel comfortable sharing an opinion with someone whose hat collection must be keeping tin foil manufacturers in business ?

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Bolton = the very best!
"I hire only the very best people", Donald J. Trump, April 5, 2016
So we know that John Bolton is one of the very best people. (So are Sessions, Cohen, Tillerson, Kelly, etc., etc.,...)

The corruption continues
Yesterday, Barr announced that the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York was stepping down and was being replaced.
This was news to said Attorney, Geoffrey Berman who refused to resign.
Even stranger, Berman is a Republican, who had even given a contribution to the the Trump Campaign. He was appointed to the position after Trump forced the resignation of his predecessor, Preet Bahara (itself suspicious).
The fact that SDNY has seen the prosecution of a number of the crooks in the Trump camp may be relevant. As is the fact that an investigation of Giuliani is underway. Whatever is going on it seems that something is brewing that would be worse for Trump than firing a US Attorney for political reasons. Well, I guess we can count on Trump’s base to overlook the corruption - that’s one reason we call them deplorable.

Barr Lies Again
I'm replying to your post but have given my own message a different title.
There's no need to add anything to the facts you already provided, but I wanted to put a finer point on Barr's lies. As I've said before, Trump is by far the liar extraordinaire of his administration, but his lies are often obvious and blatant. Attorney General William Barr's lies are usually subtle, as witness his predistorting the content of the Mueller report before its release.
But this lie about Geoffrey Berman stepping down is not subtle. Barr made a huge miscalculation by not confirming with Berman that he would simply walk away and let Barr's lie stand?
These quotes are from William Barr's announcement and from the article Trump Fires Geoffrey Berman, U.S. Attorney Who Prosecuted His Allies, Barr Says : NPR:
Attorney General William Barr:
quote:
Finally, I thank Geoffrey Berman, who is stepping down...
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey Berman:
quote:
I learned in a press release from the Attorney General tonight that I was 'stepping down' as United States Attorney. I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning, my position, to which I was appointed by the Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. I will step down when a presidentially appointed nominee is confirmed by the Senate.
William Barr, just another liar for Trump.
AbE:
This is perhaps a little more recent news from Barr Tries to Fire Berman, S.D.N.Y. U.S. Attorney, but He Won't Go - The New York Times:
quote:
Mr. Barr asked Mr. Berman to resign, but he refused, so Mr. Barr moved to fire him, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mr. Trump had been discussing removing Mr. Berman for some time with a small group of advisers, the person said. Mr. Trump has been upset with Mr. Berman ever since the Manhattan prosecutor’s office pursued a case against Mr. Cohen.

Tulsa Rally
So that looked pretty embarrassing for Trump. If there is one thing he is sensitive about it’s the size of his crowd. And he seemed to spend a bizzarre amount of time seeking to explain why he can’t walk down ramps or hold a glass of water like a normal human being. Can we be cautiously optimistic about the November election? Or is it dangerous to get too complacent with 5 months to go?

It is always dangerous to be complacent. Nevertheless, I am cautiously optimistic about the upcome election -- optimistic but not complacent.

Re: Tulsa Rally
Trump and his cronies are already playing the blame game for the disastrously embarrassing low turnout at his Tulsa rally, saying that it was caused by protesters blocking the entrances (they weren’t) and the bad liberal press (his supporters don’t read the liberal press). But he most probably stupidly did it to himself by bragging that there were over a million requests for tickets (most likely overstating the facts by two orders of magnitude), thus discouraging his supporters from trying to come to an already sold out event. It will be interesting to see what the fallout from this fiasco is since Trump was planning to have frequent future such rallies. Will he blame and fire his rally organizing team, leaving himself even less able to hold successful rallies? Will his republican puppets in congress conclude that Trump’s coat tails are pretty short or non-existent and finally stop supporting his anti-American and anti-constitutional moves? Will the republican’s big money supporters be a little more circumspect abut their contributions? Interesting times ahead.

Re: The corruption continues
For more fun, Trump toldreporters that he didn’t fire Berman, it was Barr. Barr write to Berman saying that Trump had fired him. It matters because Trump probably has the power to do it but Barr doesn’t. Even if Trump does it, it’s going to court and will likely be delayed long enough that it will take too long to stop whatever they’re scared of.
Whatever is going on in the Trump camp is unbelievably stupid.

Re: The corruption continues
Apparently Berman has agreed to go - but only because Barr caved on his successor. Barr tried to sneak in an unqualified political appointee, but gave up on that rather than continue the fight.
What this means for the investigations, I don’t know - but presumably Berman expects them to continue (even if Barr doesn’t)

Re: Tulsa Rally
Not really a reply, just more on the Tulsa Rally.
Apparently TikTok fans conducted a concerted campaign to reserve Trump rally tickets: TikTok Teens Tank Trump Rally in Tulsa, They Say - The New York Times. They believe they may have submitted hundreds of thousands of requests. Those actually obtaining tickets did not attend, contributing to the lower attendance. Here's an image of the upper deck. Note the lone guy near the upper middle who is both social distancing and wearing a mask. There's another guy in the left-middle with a mask, and four more in the first rows. That's six masks for thirty-eight people or 16%. For a Trump rally that seems pretty high:
Air Force One flew over the arena before landing, noted there was no outdoor crowd, and cancelled Trump's and Pence's plans to address the outdoor crowd even before landing. During the rally Trump lied (let's just be accurate here) that the attendance was due to "Some very bad people outside. They were doing bad things." Reporters noted there were few protesters outside the arena. Several attempts to block entrances were quickly broken up by police.
Six advance staffers for the rally tested positive before Trump arrived and are quarantined. Reportedly, Trump tried to keep secret and erupted at his staff when it reached the media. He truly wants to rule like a king, only letting out information with his approval that he often makes up himself. He is the first president with a true propaganda arm and his own legislative body, and hopefully the last.
Nothing I've seen of what he said at the rally was true (see Trump’s Tulsa Rally Fizzles as Seats Go Empty - The New York Times). He appears to be doubling down on everything he thinks will rile up his base, but in doing so he may be alienating its more sane regions. We can hope.
A comment on masks, specifically surgical masks, which are becoming very popular. There's a reason they're called surgical masks: they're for surgeons and operating room staff so that they do not breath droplets into the air that could infect a patient while he is open. They're not for protecting the OR staff from the patient. When an OR operates on covid-19 patients all the staff are wearing N95 masks and face shields.
Surgical masks are only about 30-50% as efficient as N95 masks and more difficult to breath through. Get an N95 mask if you can.

Fake news.
attendance was due to "Some very bad people outside. They were doing bad things.
Gospel truth.
There were 10s upon 10s of jackbooted antifa goons blocking the entrances keeping hundreds of thousands of loyal patriotic Americans out of the arena. Local police and fed security could not counter the goons because of the menacing evil looks and the unsociable language the antifa mobs were employing.

Maybe ratings not quite as high as AGT or the Bachelor ...
... not quite WWE but almost to the level of an WNBA game or Lutefisk Breakfast.
