I can measure down to 1/16" with my wonderful common yardstick.
I'm sure you can. But don't try to bore out the cylinders on your old Dodge Hemihead using a yardstick to mike the bore. And don't try to measure the distance to Cincinnati with one, either. [This message has been edited by Coragyps, 02-16-2004]

So what are the odds of evolution "just happening"?

The odds are identically 1.00. We've already seen evolution's results, and we are evolution's results. Start a new planet somewhere in the liquid water zone around a star, though, and I wouldn't even guess at the odds for life and subsequent evolution. There's not enough data from our sample of one. So what are the odds of evolution "just happening"? Well, of all the Earths we know about (that is, one), evolution has happened on all of them. Therefore the odds are 1/1. That's sort of what you get when you try to calculate odds after the fact. Maybe you might aquaint yourself with basic probability before you try to make arguments from it?

Umm, do you realize that I am talking about MACROevolution? We have NO proof of that. In fact, there is much MORE evidence against it.

Examples? With references? Edit to add: but such need to be in the evolution forum, perhaps in one of a few existing threads. Our worth moderators will insist, and we have issues of dating to finish here..... [This message has been edited by Coragyps, 02-16-2004]

Umm, do you realize that I am talking about MACROevolution? Macroevolution? What's that? Pretend I've never heard of it. Explain to me exactly where the line between microevolution and macroevolution is. Be as specific as possible, if you would. Doesn't it have something to do with kinds?

This thread is on Controversial Places, controversial on a dating basis. Any discussion of evidence for or against macroevolution should be taken to a more appropriate forum. by the way Welcome Miss Smarty Pants. AdminAsgara Queen of the Universe

I don't feel like spending my entire evening telling you the difference so I will put it in basic terms in a short exerpt. Micro evolution is variation within a species. Macro evolution is the whole theory of evolution aka, people from pond scum.

Thank you very much. And as the starter of the forum, I very much agree. I want to know about the controversial places with dating methods.

Do you want to talk about this in that other microevolution thread? I'd like to ask you where speciation fits into your classification.
