Ahh, control of the agenda. This makes sense.
Instead of the PM and his whips, who now determines the discussion? A majority vote? They can now discuss whether to order the PM to renegotiate the Halloween drop dead date? Why not discuss whether an election is needed? Why not debate whether Brexit is stupid and should not be pursued? Debate whether Her Majesty should have Her Royal Executioner sharpen his ax? Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

What I find interesting is that Boris could go to the Queen and say "Shut down Parliament," and she just does it. It's legal.
I wish we could do that with our Senate. [abe] Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation. |

OK, so what the hell just happened? What is this Letwin Amendment?
From what I see this Letwin thing said Parliament would not vote on Boris’ Brexit deal until it discussed and passed the Brexit deal. Say what?Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

So, Britain is lost to the rational world. If that poll prediction pans out true then the grave injury you inflict to yourselves will be generations long.

In the eons yet to come when the old pundits gather to talk of the generations past there will be tall tales of an island nation, a people brave and free that ruled all the known world from their ships and their banks. And their crown was held aloft onto the heavens where it was said the sun never set upon its helm. And it will be told of how this great nation, in a fit of self-pity at having to share the sovereignty of empire lost in a changing world, did eat upon itself and devouring their own values did the people so shun the rest of the world in their arrogance that they disappeared from the face of the Earth never to be seen again. Thus only through the apocryphal tales of raconteurs will Camelot and Atlantis and Great Britain be e're remembered in children’s dreams.

OK, now I am getting concerned.
Not only the covid stuff but now all this fish talk that has Scotland talking about leaving the UK to rejoin the EU? I've watched some of the comments on the net and, though I don't believe much eGossipTM, I get the sense a real fracture, created by brexit, is about to get nasty. You guys all right over there?Factio Republicana delenda est.

I thought the Irish problem was well on it's way to resolution, Good Friday and all that.
Now, after a generation, the religious strife appears to be flaring up yet again. Why? Is it religious, political, social injustice, economic disparity, all the above? What is the cause now? Is brexit an element? What is happening with the Emerald Isle?Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

I saw a joke meme on the benefits of Brexit to date. The page was blank.
So why not ask. What is the view of the Brits and Europeans on Brexit now? I know it was panned quite loudly early on. Are you getting used to it? Any surprising issues unforeseen that have reared their heads? I remember the Irish issue and fishing rights being tense but that was expected. Any boogymen? Over here we're on the verge of civil war and for the first time in memory it's looking like the vaunted American experiment is about to fail, the famous American dream having died. So how's things on your side?Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

Condolences to the English and all the peoples of the commonwealth on the loss of your sovereign. More than that, she was a pretty nice girl and will be missed the world over.
So now what? Charles to be king? With a conservative government in place in Britain is the monarchy secure for at least a while? Will Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Australia throw off the monarchy and take their sovereignty onto themselves? Is this long running publicity show and tourist draw about to close at Buckingham?Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

I’m wondering if a modern British monarchy is possible without having fools as a royal family? From the moment they can breath they are pampered... and watched and photographed and recorded through every window, open, shuttered or not, microphone and camera constantly shoved in their face and asked all manner of stupid question, suggestion and favor for an expected “royal” response.
Could anyone live that life and remain sane? Sure the pay is good but forced to party every day all day with camera and microphone in your face can get crazy? Can anyone stay normal? Charles didn’t. Diana didn’t. Harry, William, Megan? No. The role of a Royal someone apparently makes you megalomaniacal. The constant exposure to media, ridicule, praise adulation and hate, living in a fish bowl, has got to do un-natural things to your brain. What I’m getting at is it is not the royals’ fault. In this modern image furnace no person could stay normal. This is fault of the media, and the society that projects it. Regardless of state of mind the royals will be portrayed in both the best and worst of ways. Constantly, globally. Anyone would look stupid especially when the paparazzi are looking for stupid. Problem. Britain can’t just pitch it all and walk away. This royal family tourism and merchandising thing is big business. £ billions++ every year. Right now, today, Chinese factories are turning out millions of Queen Liz busts, crowns, broaches, pens, plates, party hats and streamers, all in black to celebrate her death. Multiply this a million times all over the world. The UK is already financially shaky. I don’t know about ditching another major sector of the economy. The UK spends about £ 100 million a year for the royals. They generate £ billions++ a year. With a coronation coming up that will be, what, £ 100 billion++? Can you give it up knowing how many millions will lose their livelihood?Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!
