Re: Almost a caricature
Well they AREN'T real Christians, there are a lot of counterfeits and the devil just loves to pretend to be a Christian. Not that Christians aren't sinners, but individually -- we aren't organized institutional sinners. Except for the papal system of course, with their Inquisition which is still on the books and will come after you as well as me if they get their power back, THEY are organized institutional murderers, as is Islam. Not individual Catholics, not individual Muslims, the institutions, the ideologies.

Re: Almost a caricature
The distinction C. S. Lewis made was between people who profess to be Christians and people who don't. People who profess to be Christians and don't follow the Christian teaching (whatever that is), Lewis chose to call "bad Christians" rather than "non-Christians".

Re: Almost a caricature
People who profess to be Christians and don't follow the Christian teaching (whatever that is)....
"Whatever that is" is whatever you want it to be.
One of the advantages of Protestant evangelicalism is that by "being moved by the Holy Spirit" Christian teaching becomes whatever you already believe.
One of the advantages of "Biblical literalism" is that big mess of contradictions can be used to support whatever you already believe.
'Course Lewis was Catholic which supposedly does have an unambiguous body of defined teachings, but I notice Catholics are no less likely to align their "Christian teachings" with their beliefs than Protestants are.

It says something about the qualities of our current president that the best argument anyone has made in his defense is that he didn't know what he was talking about. -- Paul Krugman

Re: Almost a caricature
Oh, sure, there's some debate as to what is "Christian" and what is not "Christian" (Are Mormon's Christians? Nestorians?). But that's around the edges. The point Lewis was making is that if a supposed Christian who does nasty things (Like AOC insinuating that Nancy Pelosi is racist and sexist) is not a non-Christian, just a bad Christian.

Re: Almost a caricature
Oh look the usual bigotry. Well, it’s certainly on topic.
Even the Left of the Democratic Party are hardly Communists. They are not even hard Left by European standards.
That may or may not be the case in Europe, but The Squad is far left even to the Democratic Party and sowing division within the party wherever they go. They can't stop making pot shots against Nancy Pelosi, a politician long considered so far to the left its fallen off the page. Its not left enough... its like that time Bernie Sanders was hijacked and shouted down to unproductively make a point that he already supported. Its an oppression olympics... the objective is to one-up someone else about the horrors of _____ <----
Also, I hardly think that a Muslim so liberal that she sometimes calls Allah She is the sort of fundamentalist that attacked the U.S. In fact those Muslims aren’t likely to approve of female politicians at all.
And she speaks to an era where liberal indoctrination on college campuses was inevitably going to lead.

Obviously she isn’t. I’ve never seen anything that I’d call far Left associated with her. Indeed, she seems to be associated with the establishment Democrats who are centre-Right.

So which is it? Is she so horribly liberal that she’d be on Al Quaida’s death list or should she be tarred with 9/11? It doesn’t make sense to say both.

Hello, Hyro.
Sure; the rightwing rage machine has painted Pelosi as some kind of left wing extremist for so long that I'm sure many do consider her to be too far to the left.
What about you? What has she actually done that is "off the page"? Surely pushing through Obamacare can't be considered all that far left?

Re: Almost a caricature
Lewis was Anglican, Church of England, not Catholic. Not that there's a LOT of difference I would agree.
