Sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me. But we aren't teaching that anymore. That's the point.

When I was a lad in Northern Ireland the Proddies and Chathos were always killing each other with terrorism. Can I take it that this shows that terrorism is built into Christianity Terrorism is built into Humanity. Islam has it built in their book, Christianity does not.

Just read this thread lol. It's no different than any other I have been involved in. I have been pointlessly attacked, not because of my notions, but because of my perceived notions.

Yes, and is why we should be looking to eradicate all forms of terrorism. Why don't use one form of terrorism to justify another.

Very well put! Thanks.
Of course we should try to be PC and not offend, but as you displayed in your cool story, offensivness can be very subjective and that is why we should never head down that road like the video I posted in the OP. We should teach people how not to be offended, and how not to offend, but to me teaching people how not to be offended has more value and is better for society overall. Especially since there is no way to avoid being offensive at one point or another. It's like "teach a man to fish". Our focus today is on giving out fish.

Can we stop talking about Christianity unless it has something to do with the topic? It's getting no one any where.

RR to Caffeine writes: Actually, I do agree with this. What I don't agree with is this whole demonizing of the political Left. The fact remains that human nature---in all its fallen glory--is not unique to any political ideology or party. And if the values of conservative Christianity were held to the light, what we would see is a belief that Jesus wanted us to be free and prosperous and that the Left was threatening to tear this down. Well, I have news for all of us. Jesus may well be allowing it to be torn down. Let's see how Christian we are when we have nothing! The political Right is holding on to an ideology and mistaking it for being God-given. But today we have people being hung in the public square because of one subjective offense statement. riVeRraT writes: Why does it only apply to you? What are you talking about?Of course it applies to everyone. Again, if you think Trump getting called a few names is "tyranny" by all means let's see your example.Without an example that makes any sense... your bluster falls flat. In Europe you can be arrested for that, and there are people here who want the same. Do you even think before you type? Of course there are people here who want the same. There are people who who want textbooks to say the world is flat. The natural result of having free speech is that (with a large enough population) you will have some people who want/say pretty much anything. Why are you trying to stifle it? Are you offended? Maybe you should teach yourself not to be offended so easily... The point isn't that "there are people here who want the same." Who cares about a few loons? The point is that "there is no progress here being made in that direction." And if you think there is, well, again... without you showing an actual example with some meat on it... your bluster falls flat.

quote: Freedom of speech, then, would seem to include the right to call a bigot a bigot.
quote: Please explain how my idea of bigotry is different from the actual definition
quote: And yet we both know perfectly well that Trump did it, and at least some of his base lapped it up. Are they on the left? And as we have seen there is an unfortunate amount of racism still around in the US.
quote: Perhaps you should consider the notion that there is more to it than mere offence. That the reason for offence matter. Perhaps also you should consider the faults of those on the Right. Faith takes offence very, very easily - and it hurts her. But apparently you are more interested in a one-sided narrative attacking the Left with little regard for the truth.

Terrorism is built into Humanity. Islam has it built in their book, Christianity does not. , True, but it is built into human nature and Christians are human too. What most American conservative Christians fail to realize is that true Christians are called to suffer rather than protecting what they have. To be fair, the political left fails to realize is that there is an authority in life higher than anything they can vote in. Both sides will eventually answer to reality. Every knee will bow.Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Where is it not being taught? Show your work.Give an example. Don't you have anything to back up your claims? Or are you just attempting to fear-monger because you know you don't actually have any substance to discuss?

I think I can see his point. His point is that the political correctness crowd is making it a crime, to be blunt and bigoted. He may claim that free speech should be preserved even if it offends someone. The other side is attempting to legislate morality and create a leader that fills these expectations. Or something like that.

quote: That is funny coming from you.
quote: Because liars like you want to attribute your faults to those who dare disagree with you.
quote: That is simply false. For all I know Trump is just cynically appealing to xenophobes and racists.
quote: In other words there was none. Not in that statement.
quote: And so we are back with your lies and hypocrisy.
