I think that Theresa is between a rock and a hard place. She was not in favour of Brexit at all, but now she's got to manage it.
She's a very clever politician and very intelligent in real life. She accepts reality. Most of the British voters who cast their votes in that referendum did vote for leaving the EU. She's got to figure out what to do with it. Basically reality; do something. Interesting days ahead. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Hi Tangle
Another option someone mentioned the other day (I can’t remember which channel; Al-Jazeera I think) is that the UK cedes Northern Ireland to the Irish Republic and then the rest of the UK can do a hard Brexit as a lot of Britons want with fewer complications. Is that a realistic position remembering The Troubles and what would the legality be of such a situation?

Yes, I realise that, but it doesn't seem as if the May Govt. will be in power for much longer.

Interesting times ahead.
It's basically 'may the road come up to meet your face' for everyone (no pun intended for Theresa or Jeremy or Boris or Joe or Nigel or any other politician). Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

Oh and Jeremy. He's been awfully quiet. His party is just as divided and most of his party's staunchest Labour seats got HUGE majorities for Brexit and HUGE majorities against Brexit (Trump speak). Jeremy is too scared to say anything.
It's going to be fun and games. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

I don't think that a deal satisfying most people can be reached. Their only realistic long-term deal that can work is for Britain to abandon Northern Ireland.
Then years of violence in Northern Ireland and bombs in London till the Catholics in Northern Ireland can outbreed the Protestants in years to come and become a majority in about 20 to 30 years as current figures show will happen. That's about it. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

I've been watching various live interviews with Nigel on BBC International, Sky and CNN throughout the night (here where I live 2 hours ahead of GMT).
What surprised me was that not even one reporter asked him to comment on the Irish border question. Or maybe it wasn't broadcast. To me that's absolutely criminal from journalists. They pussyfoot around the biggest problem when they ask him questions. Or maybe I missed it. Anyone can refer me to Nigel's recent comments on the Irish border problem? It's quite a mess. I really don't see any good solution. The British people voted for leaving the EU.
It's not easy and a big mess. Hard days ahead. If Theresa could pull this one off without any resulting violence anywhere she should be known as the greatest PM ever.

Probably realistic, but I know and worked with quite a few Northern Irish Brits and Irish persons who wouln't be too happy about that one. The peace treaty is going to be non-applicable. The Good Friday Agreement. Expect IRA bombs in London again.

I don't think that a general election would solve anything as one of the two major parties may get a majority or just under a majority of the seats anyway. These major parties are completely just as divided about Brexit as the other one.
A general election won't solve the problem. It might just postpone the implimentation of Article 50 for a few months. That's about it.

Cameron. He started this nonsense. I was looking forward to his proper and nice beheading.
I'm sure The Queen is not amused with his antics and then relieving himself of the chaos he created by an ill thought out vague election promise. But, on the other hand, he's a poor rich boy. Money, properties, etc. all over the world. He'll always be rich and then look for sympathy.

There really is no solution to that Brexit conundrum. I think a no-deal scenario is getting more realistic. That's going to open a lot of other cans (with another variety of ugly worms)!
Let's put it this way. I wouldn't want to be the next British PM, even if they paid me the equivalent of what Trump lost reported or not reported in his tax reurns. Every day. It's gonna bite them from behind one way or another. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

It's going to get even more interesting to watch.
Some clever tv producer and people could make a lot more money from this than any other "reality-show" from the past. I mean, even Kylie is a billionare...and she's quite lame compared to this. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

caffeine writes: Right on time. The major parties are, just like in the US, slaves to big corporations. Time to change that.
If we need a narrative to describe the election, it should be one of fragmentation....
