Just read the preview to The God Of Sex by Peter R.Jones. It is an eye opener, thats for sure. Yes, he is homophobic, but he makes a valid case for why our culture is changing for the worse rather than better. Faith, you would benefit from reading the preview. I may or may not buy the book...I need my spare change....perhaps for the guy on the corner holding that sign.

It would help if you put your understanding of what Peter Jones says into your own words so I can see what you find "eye opening" about it.

Of course following some parts of the Bible - even when they relate to sex - would make things worse. And yet, some people still argue for them.
Some common sense definitions are necessary regarding this accusation. Rape is having sex with a woman while she screams for help. No scream, no rape according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24.

Well, if she didn't scream there would have been no way to prove it wasn't consensual. It's a choice between stoning the two of them to death or stoning him alone.

You mean that you want to bring stoning back ? For extra-marital sex ? Or did you really really miss that we are talking about the modern world ?
(But even if you did, thanks for pointing out another example for me)

Oh I'm sure Jones is not making an equation between our laws and OT laws in his discussion of sex as God's creation; I was responding only to your complaint that the woman would "have to" scream to prove rape as if that was such an unfair imposition on her.

It is, in fact, quite common to appeal to OT laws when Christians want to condemn homosexuality. And Jones mentions the Bible as authority, not just the NT.

Aside from the fact that my complaint was that enforcing that part of the OT Law now would be a horrible idea it was still pretty horrible even then.
A presumption of guilt in a capital case is hardly nice under any circumstances. Perhaps you would do better appealing to the fact that if it was rape she might have to marry her attacker and death might be the preferable option ? Or maybe not.

...the woman would "have to" scream to prove rape as if that was such an unfair imposition on her.
This is very nearly the stupidest, least aware, thing I have ever heard. Did it enter your little mind that screaming can get a rape victim strangled or beaten into a coma? Honestly, there is a point at which willful ignorance just becomes disgusting. You are long past that point.

We're talking about OT times. Doing that to his victim would get the rapist even worse punishment. This is going on in the open "field" somewhere, in a culture where everybody knows everybody else, not a dark alley in an anonymous city, or even the victim's home in the suburbs. Get your context straight.

What the Hell are you babbling about? In OT times, the rapist was going to be killed if he got caught. If she started screaming, it was far more imperative then than it is now that he shut her up. He wasn't risking a few years of crappy room and board from the state if he got caught, he was risking death. You have, as usual, got this entirely ass-backwards.
Could you perhaps elucidate, quoting the appropriate verse, precisely what worse-than-stoning punishment he would get if he took the entirely prudent step strangling her to shut her up?
I won't hold my breath.

If she didn't scream she'd be stoned for adultery.
I didn't bring this up. As usual I'm responding to some weird attack on the OT. Look it up yourself.
And, would it kill you to be minimally polite?:

Nice own goal.
Quite the brilliant law-giver you have there.
Did you miss the part where we're discussing God's attitude toward sex?
Or did you miss the part where he (in your fairy-tale, at least) is responsible for those laws, and their damned if you do/damned if you don't idiocy?
Respect is earned, Faith. Your dishonesty and willful ignorance have long ago stripped you of any expectations in that department.

Try answering the issues instead of parading your persecution complex.
What kind of a stupid law-giver puts a victim of rape in that position?
