Faith writes: I get the impression of envy from the way you all talk about the rich as if they had no right to be rich and try to protect their wealth. .The way people talk about the wealthy is very grabby-greedy-disdainful-envious etc. So as usual you have absolutely no evidence and only the fantasy of your cult. Arthur Brooks, the author of a book on donors to charity, Who Really Cares, cites data that households headed by conservatives give 30 percent more to charity than households headed by liberals. A study by Google found an even greater disproportion: average annual contributions reported by conservatives were almost double those of liberals. Does the rubric of charity include donations to church run organizations?

The wealthy aren't contributing to fixing the deficit because there's nothing in it for them. That's how people work. Exactly, that IS how people work and you simply have no solution at all if you don't give people incentive. Increasing taxes does nothing to solve the problem of motivating people and actually accomplishes the reverse, people getting out of the situation that hurts their interests, going to other countries, anything. THIS is the problem you have to solve.
My solution is taxation. Of course, that's always the solution from the left. See above. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Taxes do not destroy financial incentives. It's always individually beneficial to accumulate more wealth.
The top tax bracket in the 1950s was 90% and the economy was great. Plus there are other incentives, such as power. Yes, taxation is the solution to financing government and a safety net. The right's solution is always more for the rich. Liberals tax and spend, conservative just spend on the rich and explode the deficit. Remember when Obama was President and Republicans pretended to care about the deficit? Edited by JonF, : No reason given. Edited by JonF, : No reason given.

My definition is something like this: Taxes for running the government, public works, infrastructure, etc, are like a fee we pay for those services. Welfare, on the other hand, goes to individuals who perform no services and earn none of it. That's socialism. Welfare is just one form or aspect of socialism. Socialism is an economic principle, not merely "people getting free stuff." Obviously the Free-Rider argument is one of many unflattering things about Socialism, but it isn't consigned only to that limited view. A system of taxation against private capital in order to fund public programs is 100% socialist. The military is socialist. Public libraries are socialist. Welfare is socialist. Police departments are socialist. Fire departments are socialist. Medicare, Social Security, etc... all run by Socialist principles. So, again, perhaps your argument isn't that socialism is in and of itself bad, but when expanded too far it can be problematic... which I would of course agree with. The idea is that you pay a nominal fee in order to use services. The problem is what happens when some people don't pay in to the services and not only use the services they didn't pay in to, but use the services far in excess than the people who actually did pay for the services? Therein lies the fundamental problem with a system that only uses socialism. We have to remember that Faith deals in words, not the actual things that the words represent.

Sorry, I'm sticking to my definition. If we get services for our taxes it's not socialism.

Posted this on the Rapture thread but it also belongs here because it's about a conspiracy to destroy western Christian civilization by immigration. The last part is about Muslim slavery.
Radio show by Chris Pinto on the planned destruction of western civilization, meaning really Christianity, through immigration. Another sign of the end times. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Again, all you have is another example of Christian Cult of Ignorance carny sideshow; no evidence and lots of misrepresentation, unsupported assertions and fantasy based on fantasy.
First, there is absolutely no evidence that there has been any "Western Christian civilization" (AbE: at least in last five hundred years or so) just as there is no such thing as "The Bible" and so there is no way there could be any attempt to destroy what has never existed. The last Western Christian civilization was the expansion of Christianity as the State Religion of Rome. Edited by jar, : No reason given.

You must be just about the only person on the planet with that weird opinion.

But it is not an opinion Faith but rather a conclusion based on overwhelming evidence. Then it would make sense to present that evidence. While it's probably overkill to provide evidentiary support or elaborate your argument every time you present a standard piece of common knowledge, if you want to advance an unusual and controversial position (that there is no such thing as Western Christian civilisation) it might help to use a few more words. Maybe what you're actually saying is something fairly uncontroversial, but we'd have more chance of knowing that if you tried explaining what you mean. Edited by caffeine, : No reason given.

The immigrants Republicans want to keep out the most are much more likely to be christian than the average American. 81% of Mexicans identify as Catholic.
