For reasons I believe I've given clearly enough, I'm content if I can simply state my opinion to get it on the table.
No one has ever questioned the fact that you have an opinion but the issue is "Why do you hold that opinions? What is the evidence to support such an opinion or give it any validity beyond just being your opinion?"

The ONLY one we've ever heard "tell it like it is" from our point of view.
Then why is it "telling it like it is" from your point of view is never supported by reality or evidence and in fact reality shows he is telling it like it ain't.

Do you doubt that conservatives feel this way about his political stance?
I don't doubt that Trump supporters feel that way; but I am a Conservative, in fact a Republican Conservative, and I certainly do not feel that way.
The question is, why is the group you label as "conservative" so divorced from reality, honesty, reason, morality and all of the evidence?

Re: the problem
Faith writes:
You're talking about the half of the country that voted for Trump. I don't think you'd much like the adjectives i'd attach to the other half of the country, so perhaps we shouldn't go there.
Scary isn't it?
But if the evidence showed the other half of the country was so divorced from reality, honesty, reason, morality and all of the evidence I would think we should absolutely go there.
But the fact remains that at this time there is overwhelming evidence that the group you label as "conservatives" is divorced from reality, honesty, reason and morality. If that were not the case then they could present the evidence that supported their beliefs.

surprise
Faith writes:
Golly gosh, that must be why the other half of the country was so blindsided by Trump's win, just no clue to how he appealed to so many of us. And still does.
Correct. It is really hard to believe that there are so many US citizens who are so totally disconnected from reality, critical thinking, evidence based decision making, honesty and morality.
The subject has been discussed in the past and some of us kept saying that a Trump win was a very likely outcome (see Message 187 in the thread Yes, The Real The New Awesome Primary Thread) but it's been a long time since "It can't happen here" was generally available.
Trump though is really playing "Buzz" Windrip as well as any actor so far.
The question now is whether that segment of US citizens who were so totally disconnected from reality, critical thinking, evidence based decision making, honesty and morality that they could vote for Trump is a permanent and persistent characteristic of US society today or simply a short term aberration and anomaly.
And remember, we still have no clue how he appealed to so many of you other than you liked his sales spiel and vacuous promises.

Re: the problem
But America was already great by every possible evidential index.
It is only in the fantasy world unconnected to reality in anyway that there was any need to Make America Grate Again.
quote:
Published during the rise of fascism in Europe, the novel describes the rise of Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, a politician who defeats Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and is elected President of the United States, after fomenting fear and promising drastic economic and social reforms while promoting a return to patriotism and "traditional" values.
Trump is simply Buzz Windrip and a large percentage of US citizens feel for his carny conjob.

You can argue all you like, that isn't going to change how supporters of Trump see him.
Possibly correct, at least that is what he has claimed; that he could shoot someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and not lose one vote.
But let's see what happens in reality instead of the fantasy world you seem to inhabit.

There was a time when it was considered civilized to treat another's very different opinion with some respect.
Utter and complete bullshit Faith.
Not all opinions deserve to be treated with respect, particularly opinions that are shown to be false by reality. It is fine to allow others to hold opinions that are not based at all on reality but not to allow those opinions to be forced or imposed on others.
The fact is after over sixty posts you have still not provided a single piece of evidence that there even is an anti-Trump conspiracy.

Re: the problem
No one doubts you read books filled with absurdities Faith, BUT... Fascism does already have a definition and Left or Liberal are not part of it.
To claim a leftist Fascism is simply a sign of ignorance at best and most likely dishonesty.
There are certain characteristics of fascism; extreme nationality, an emphasis on building the military, espousing traditional morality, corporatism, authoritarian charismatic leaders ... none of those are liberal, socialist or leftist but all of them are present in Trump's administration.

Faith writes:
For "ultranationalism" read One World Order and you've got Liberal Fascism.
You really can't be that ignorant.
One World Order is the exact opposite of Nationalism or ultra-nationalism and only the totally ignorant or utterly dishonest would make a claim that they were similar.
In addition, there is absolutely no evidence of any One World Order in any liberal proposals.
Finally Liberal Fascism is still an impossible.
The rest of your post is just more absurdities that are the hallmark of your Cults dogma.

One World Order is the absolute epitome of totalitarian government, oppression, dictatorship and authoritarian control.
Yes, I know your Cult desires and promotes just that; it is called the Second Coming.
Faith writes:
Speaking of the One World Order this message keeps being sent to my blog, about how I'm obligated to obey a European Union law about having cookies on one's blog, which I don't have as far as I know:
Then perhaps you should learn what "cookies" are and what they do. What the law says is that if you retain information about visitors from the EU you inform them of that fact.
But how that is any indication of some One World Order you have not yet explained.

Of course we aren't going to budge on the twisting of his words and the fake news reports. It's the left that has to give on those things.
Yet you can offer no evidence to show that "twisting his words and the fake news reports" even exists and is anything more than wilful mass delusion.

I referred to three instances of it from Percy's message in my post.
If by post you mean Message 235 then no; you did not refer to any instances but just made more totally unsupported assertion.
If you meant some other post then you need to provide the link to that post.
But so far you still have not shown any reason to think the book or Trump support is based on anything but wilful mass delusion.

Re: the problem

I listed these three distortions of Trump's and his supporters' views:
... your whole method is to twist what Trump says into something else, something sleazy of course
  • (he doesn't care about feasibility, only appealing to his base;
  • it's really about making America "white" again,
  • and it's all about making himself rich etc
This is character assassination, typical of the left and only too familiar at EvC.
No Faith, those are all simply unsupported assertions on your part.
You need to provide the evidence to support your position because reality shows Percy's postition is match by Trump's begavor and speech.

I made the case for his twisting his words and imputing sleazy motives to him without warrant.
No Faith, you did not.
The way you could try to make that case is by providing a specific quote as well as the specific evidence that his words were twisted.
As to imputing sleazy motives to him; you will have a real problem since his own words show sleazy motives.
