To make up for hard winds & heavy rains
We are experiencing a nasty weather day that just makes me feel cold when I look outside. So to warm my spirit I am posting a couple shots I came across that were shot just South of Sedona, AZ on Clear Creek. I met my four friends in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona, but could not stop and explore the stream because there had been floods and a lot of the aquatic life had been killed by a huge flux of ash material from a wildfire that had washed into the stream. We had hoped to photograph Cordulegaster diadema, a large, beautiful, black and yellow dragonfly. but all access to the creek was closed.
We found some nice species on Clear Creek including this stream damselfly, Hetaerina americana male, the American Rubyspot.
And this is the female Hetaerina americana
Enjoy

This image shows the uplift on the south side of the Hurricane Fault. Quail Creek South Dam sits upstream from the town of Hurricane, Utah, to the right. The fault runs south from here to cross the Colorado River near the west end of the Grand Canyon.
I was fascinated by the upthrust blocks of strata that can be seen on both sides of the fault in this area. There are housing developments all along these upthrust buttes.
This image is a composite of 10 images. The original panorama is 8740 pixels wide. This version is 2048 pixels wide.
I was thinking of starting a thread we could post images of geological features from around the Southwest and maybe discuss the histories and the processes that formed them. Maybe Pressie and Edge and the other geologists here can interpret what we are seeing in the context of hundreds of millions to billions of years of geological history.
