Re: The End of the End of Faith
Long before that, the State Department decided that moderate pan-Arab socialism in the Middle East was too docile and 70s. So they spiced things up by tooling up the mujaheedin in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets, and that nationalist, fundamentalist warlord whackjobbery has been rockin' the house (and the Pentagon budget) ever since.
And people say my attitude is paranoid, conspiracy theorist !!!
Just in case everyone forgot the Cold War, and Russia's desire for European conquest ... look to Crimea and the Ukraine.
You are right, though. The Pentagon and the U.S. Government have spent WAY too much money trying to help the rest of the world.
Unfortunately, no one will listen to those of us who say we should just close our borders, withdraw from all other Countries and focus on our own problems. Let the rest of the world police itself.

Through Jesus, God was establishing His kingdom of those who love His truth, justice, love etc and that kingdom would be one that would stretch from this world into the next.
So ... which of the religions gets to "move on" into his kingdom?
Jewish (which Jesus purportedly was)
Catholic
Pentecostal
Methodist
Lutheran
Evangelist
Presbyterian
Jehovah's Witness
Muslim ... oops, that was Mohamed, not Jesus ... so they're out.
Did I miss any of the hell-bound?

You are hitting all the wingnut points.
I suppose it's a case of right turning wingnuts, and left turning (wrong direction) wingnuts like you.

Simply put again, it is loving, truthful, just, and kind hearts that make us right with God
That's good, I guess. Since I fit the above description ... I'll be going to heaven, if there is one, even though I don't believe in it. Another one of those conundrums.

Re: We Have Met The Enemy & He Is Us
Nice little dissertation, Phat.
Yeah ... I don't take much personally. I don't trust ANYONE in D.C., republican or democrat (but especially democrats) because they are all career politicians and that means "crooked".
Yes, I believe God exists and would exist even if no human on earth believed in Him.
Wow! There are so many things "off" about that statement. It's a great statement, because it allows Evolution as a side effect of Creation and we he probably doesn't even know we popped into being within his light show.
If humans become extinct, Who will observe our demise?
Perhaps another evolved intelligent species.
Moreso, will there be any evidence for said observer?
Only if they get here before the evolving planet destroys all signs of our existence. The only way we will "leave a mark" on the universe is if we overcome our petty squabbles and continue the evolution of man. If we can continue to expand our knowledge, figure how to expand our territory beyond our own solar system, then we will (or humanoids will) be part of the universe forever.

GIA ... I am confused by your statements.
Having another innocent person suffer for the wrongs you have done, --- so that you might escape responsibility for having done them, --- is immoral.
... do you believe or don't you ... I can't tell.
Is GDR's brand of religion different from yours, or is it just that he believes?

Which version do you think is more moral and deserving of praise and why?
I don't think the "history" of how they see a "Christ" figure makes any religion more "moral" or less than any other. So, I can say either is "more moral".
I don't think either "deserves praise," either. Regardless of how you see your god, the fact that you devote time "seeking" or "following" it seems pointless to me. Gnostic christians may interpret the bible differently than other christians, but you still revere a book that was written by men.
My apotheosis also showed me that God has no need for love, adoration or obedience. He has no needs.
Then why even believe there is one? If your god doesn't need your belief, then anything you do to "seek" a relationship with it is useless. Like naming a car ... it's got nothing to do with the car ... it's just a comfort for you.
