Re: another spam
I logged in last night at around 11:30 central time. There were many spam messages, all appearing to be from the same newly enrolled member. As I recall, they were all in Coffee House. The account of that poster appeared to have been permanently suspended.
I read the one message that was not spam, then closed the tab and found something else to do.

Economic Growth Thread
It's usually enough to remind someone they are off topic and then not respond to their further off-topicness.
But Tangle seems intent on pushing his own agenda (discussion of the third world) in a topic that is specifically about discussion of the first world, and is now serial posting assertions that he is on topic and it's just wasting space. As if it weren't bad enough that he's refusing to offer evidence for his position or even relate anything he says to the topic.
If he wants to discuss the third world, he should start a separate thread.
Because right now the discussion he wants to have is not the discussion that thread was started to have.

By a moderator, yes, by someone who wishes to close down an inconvenient contrary argument no.

I'm not discussing the third world. I'm pointing out to you the obvious fact that you can't make radical changes to the economies of the first world without affecting the economies of the third. If you're intent on making an argument about marginal utility, you can't do it by excluding the majority of the people on the planet.

Re: Economic Growth Thread
I took a quick look at Message 1 of A Tree is a Tree: Growthmanship in the Developed World , and at the last few messages of the thread. I decided it would take more time than I have to understand the issues under discussion well enough to make an intelligent determination. Sorry. Maybe another moderator will take a look.

I'm not much up on this topic, but my instincts are that the discussion (at least in the context of this forum) can be narrowed to exclude third world considerations. Just like how we try to keep a more narrow focus in science topics - While things must also fit into the big picture, that doesn't mean we can't try to restrict a topic to considering the small picture.
Judgement: Jon is correct in the context of a topic at this forum. Tangle is correct in the context of the real world. OSLT.
And shame on you for running crying to mummy.
Jon submitted what he considered to be a forum discussion problem. Even if it isn't judged to be such, he still followed proper procedure.
Please take any further discussion of this matter to General Discussion Of Moderation Procedures (aka 'The Whine List'), and there supply a link back to this message.

Not necessary, I made a mistake by assuming that the thread was about economics. There's therefore little more to be said about Jon's fantasies if he won't discuss their economic implications except that's interesting, dear."

Kitchens Have Feelings Too
I don't know.
I think it's worth discussing.
Personally, I like a wood countertop for the island, but the main counter needs to be non-porous. White works in some instances, but it also reminds me of slumlords who white wash everything to hide how rundown their properties are.
While this one looks nice, I find it a little impractical:
The limitation of the wood worktop to the island and the general color scheme makes this one, in my opinion, closer to ideal:
I have more to say, but I'll wait till the thread is promoted.
