My son just accepted an entry level software engineering position right out of school and he's making much, much less, but he doesn't know anything yet, so maybe that's the kind of underpaid situation you had in mind.
Are you suggesting that someone with degrees in software engineering and mathematics, and 10 years of commercial software engineering experience - knows nothing simply because he is underpaid? Is that the sort of "intelligence" we are dealing with here?
Uh, no. I can't imagine how you got that idea.
I described my son who is right out of school, not someone with "degrees in software engineering and mathematics, and 10 years of commercial software engineering experience." When I said he doesn't know anything yet I meant he has no experience (at least not up until a few weeks ago), thereby explaining the low salary.
You said that software developers are often paid badly. I was merely pointing out that that is definitely not the case, unless, perhaps, you mean software developers with no experience, like my son.
There are already too few students majoring in software engineering in US colleges today. We don't need people spreading false information about low salaries that increase the reluctance to choose this major.
