I am finding Facebook unintuitive. And it will become infuriating as it organizes things their way. You will find posts on the page becoming ephemeral and hard to find again, even with search. But your purpose is to attract people to this forum, not to have discussions on facebook, yes? So it is advertisement ... by our ability to understand Rebel☮American☆Zen☯Deist ... to learn ... to think ... to live ... to laugh ... to share. The goal is that Facebook searches for terms related to the creation/evolution debate will include our Facebook page in the search results. So far I'm not even close. The only searches that find us are "evolution creationism" and "evolution versus creationism".
And it will become infuriating as it organizes things their way. I don't mind the difference between my way and someone else's way. What I mind is a bad way. How did Facebook become so popular? Is the enigmatic behavior and indeterminism part of the allure for the LCD? I am really impressed with their image acquisition capabilities. I hope to implement something just as easy for here so members can easily add images to their account from their own machine or the web. --Percy

How did Facebook become so popular? The vast majority of people will follow and be part of anything they consider "popular".I joined FB a couple months ago. The only reason I did was because earlier in the year I met up with some cousins in Puerto Rico I ahd not seen in 30 years. I thought FB would be a good way to stay in contact with them. Now I know what all my friends and family do every day. I really don't care. Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

You know how you might not want to go to a big family occasion (wedding, reunion, whatever) because there are inevitably animosities that renew themselves with every opportunity? Uncle Chester will throw up on somebody, and Aunt Myrtle will call somebody a slut... Facebook is like that 24/7. If I un-friended everyone in my family, it would work better...but I don't want to know what strangers had for lunch (or see it, jeez), either, or look at another insipid chain-link about Jesus or kittens. The share is too much with us. I like my kittens live. So I just drifted away from using FB altogether: All the annoying things in life, conveniently located in one place. No thanks. NB: Though it would be fun to track down CS and watch his paranoia flower... How did Facebook become so popular? When it first came out it was so much cleaner. It was really pretty basic and didn't have a whole lot going on. There wasn't even a "news feed" on your home page, it was basically just a book of faces. Gradually, they've added and implemented more and more crap and junk and now its a real turd. Too, with the integration into, well, everything on the web, and how stuff gets automatically shared onto news feeds, its gotten to the point where I find it almost unusable. Their software is just pathetic, too. All kinds of shit just messes up and doesn't work right. So don't think the fault is lying on your end. On the other hand, I just ran into a guy that was one of my best friends in grade school. I haven't heard from or seen him in, like, 20 years. I was very interested in seeing where he lives, and what he does, and learning that he is married with 3 boys now. Without Facebook (or something like it), I doubt that would have ever happened. We're even making plans to meet up over Thanksgiving. I'm really happy about that.

I would suggest for you creating an alias on Facebook That's not gonna happen. As much as I voice my objection to losing anonymity, my extreme case of apathy will end up overpowering.
Personally, I've decided that if people want to dislike me because of my opinions, which have generally been based on research and logical thought, then f*** 'em. Yeah, but you see, I'll write stuff that isn't even my opinion. Rather than having to explain to people that I don't believe or support some of the stuff I write, I'd rather just avoid the whole thing altogether.
This I can understand as well, we have all pissed someone off on this board at one time or another. However, from most of my experiences on this board, I do not see a lot of hate thrown around even though we quite often disagree. Lurkers... I mean, were you here when those hackers followed crashfrog over here from another board and crashed the whole site for a week?
Now, does this mean your scenario isn't possible? No, it does not, I'm just not going to live my life in fear of it. I wouldn't call it fear so much as a justified wariness.
See, the creep factor doesn't really bother me because I tend to be an open person anyways. Sure, and I'll send you a friend request on Facebook. Just don't expose me, please. 'Cause I'm purposefully acting as a closed person, and I'd rather have control over who does and does not know who I am.

The "Understanding Through Discussion" portion needs to move.. Ya know, UTD should be, like, our motto. Too often we just try to prove a new poster wrong, without even discussing with them enough to get a good understanding of what they're trying to say. Maybe if we all aimed for UTD a bit more, the conversations here would be more constructive.

Hey Percy, I am sending a message to Knigel from Skepti-forum right now to see if he has any possible solutions for the search problems we are experiencing. Once he gets back to me, I will let you know what he has to say on the problems and how to fix it. I'm going to include a link to this specific page of discussion, in case he needs some clarification.
ABE- Just heard back from him and it does appear that Facebook's search functions are very limited. I will include his entire message, but he says that Facebook details are closed to Google searches, so that explains why content can't be searched for via Google.
Knigel writes: Hey there, Facebook sucks The only search terms will typically be those in the name, so if you want EVC, you might want to add it in the title like (EVC). Facebook is also a mostly closed system, so very little will come up in Google. Okay, we had a little conversation to try and find possible solutions to the search function. It appears that there is a lot of limiting factors. I'll just post the whole conversation and perhaps someone with more computer know how can work a viable solution.
Knigel writes: For sure, we're pushing FB to its limits with the SF project, and this platform really isn't ideal. So many restrictions and silliness. I'd suggest setting something else up to assist. For example, a Wiki or something like we do in SF. Organise specific debates and then add those discussions elsewhere. Matt writes: Yeah, Percy already has a well constructed forum using dboard v. 4.0, which is the primary location where debates occur. If we were to add links to the Facebook to the forum, those should then be searchable via Google, correct? Albeit, this may not easily serve to direct traffic into the debates... Knigel writes: Well, the links might come up, but I wouldn't depend on that providing too much traffic. Perhaps continuously link back and forth between the two so that there's a lot of intermixing between the official forum and Facebook. The theory of evolution by cumulative natural selection is the only theory we know of that is in principle capable of explaining the existence of organized complexity. - Richard Dawkins Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night. - Issac Asimov If you removed all the arteries, veins, & capillaries from a person’s body, and tied them end-to-endthe person will die. - Neil Degrasse Tyson What would Buddha do? Sadly, I have never been the moderator of a Facebook group, so I have not had experience with linking from that side of the aisle. My guess is he is saying to include several links on Facebook to specific pages within here, such as creating pinned threads that can link people to each individual forum, i.e.-Big Bang and Cosmology, Comparative Religions, or Intelligent Design as examples. Then, from the forum side, we would create links, I'm guessing listed under Essential Links to specific threads on Facebook. Knigel is saying this connection between the two sites could allow enough information to exist that Google searches would turn up the site, but even he said this may not work. I'm noticing that when I search for Skepti-forum on Google, I tend to only get the results that apply to the Skepti-forum wiki that he created.
ABE - I did find Skepti-forum's Facebook page as well through Google now, so perhaps I just missed it the first time I searched. I will say, I was just able to find us on Facebook through Google by searching for "EVC Forum Facebook" so it looks like there are some connections between the two (I think it is based on the similarity of the website link listed on Facebook and the normal search responses for EVC Forum on Google.
