But it is just unseemly that religion is being used as an argument to completely trash evidence, science, and the scientific method -- in the Science Forum.
When moderating in the science forums I try to distinguish between foundational philosophical statements ("The Bible says the Flood happened, and because the Bible is infallible and inerrant we therefore know that the Flood must have happened."), which I'm fine with, versus Bible-based arguments ("The Coconino was deposited in a marine environment because the Bible says so.") In the Why the Flood Never Happened thread I thought Faith kept her focus predominantly on the evidence and is doing a great job in that regard.
But I do find large gray areas.
As long as Faith is here, if Jaf returns and you feel so moved, maybe you could try to encourage him to take it down a few notches, else he'll be permanently suspended.

A week, a week for Hooah?
Phat you are out of control.
Come on other mods and admin, does the punishment meet the offense.
Meanwhile dadman is crapping all over the place and what does Phat do? Encourages more of the crap.

Re: A week, a week for Hooah?
Can you show me specific examples of dadman being off topic?
In each post that was made in that topic, hooah was off topic and had no apologies. New creationists should be given leeway and time to defend their apologetic s. Hooah knows better and was simply spamming the topic out of disrespect.
add by edit: Suspension lifted early. Dadman is proving to be more of a troll than I thought. Lets all lead by example though....

Are you truly this unselfaware?
You yourself acknowledge he is a troll.

I now see that you were right, but I am a creationist moderator and will give new creationists/fundamentalists leeway up to a point.
The fact remains that hooah knows better...apparantly dadman does not. Hooahs suspension is lifted anyway...
I can learn a few things from all of this as well...

Second:
Message 73
I still believe that new members should be given a chance.
Most of us have been in the game for a while and know when to call a spade a spade. It doesn't take 600 messages to determine someone to be a troll. We are smart enough and have seen enough shit to be able to see discussion tactics that are distinctly troll-like and not at all genuine. If all it takes is for someone to use religion as a shield to shit all over this place, you're in for a bad time and frankly, does a great disservice to your own beliefs. It shows that you know religion/faith hampers your ability to reason. Is that really the message you want to send?
but I am a creationist moderator and will give new creationists/fundamentalists leeway up to a point.
Is that how moderation is supposed to work? Is that the environment EvC is hoping to create? One that is so desperate for religious members that they have no standards, are allowed to break the rules and anyone that reciprocates their behavior is suspended (as long as that person is not religious, of course)?
If so, fuck this place and fuck you. I'd rather circlejerk myself to death on /r/atheism if there are to be no standards. I come here because there ARE standards and there is thoughtful discussion with people that know what they are talking about (not that anyone gives a shit why I am here and could care less if I never posted again, but I am sure others feel the same). I would like Percy to chime in so I can gauge whether this is the environment he wishes to establish. At least moose is just straight up irrational towards everyone with no bias.
The fact remains that hooah knows better...apparantly dadman does not.
It makes my fedora moist to know that atheists/evolutionists on this board are the ones with which standards are held. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.
At any rate, yes, I know better. But I also knew that the thread was going nowhere and was in the faith and belief section (not exactly the pinnacle of posting facts, data or anything relevant). I posted things that went right in line with faith and belief and went right in line with how dadman was posting. I followed OP's lead. How the hell was that wrong? It's YOUR JOB to get him in line, not mine. You failed. Miserably.
I can learn a few things from all of this as well...
But you won't.
Thank you Theodoric. I know I don't make it easy.

Moderator Request
Moderators are responsible for enforcing the Forum Guidelines. Enforcement of these Forum Guidelines is our means of making discussion as productive as possible. Please do not make it difficult for moderators carrying out their responsibilities.
Moderators are generally encouraged to give more leeway to creationists with regard to supporting their arguments with evidence and to keeping religion out of the science forums, the rationale being that their background usually has a much greater emphasis on faith and religion rather than evidence and science.
This message is informational, and this thread is not for discussions. Please, no replies.

Let it go, referees make the best decisions they can at the time they make them and they're human - some more than most.
We need them and Phat's heart is in the right place. Give him a break.

ICANT granted temp access
Hey Admins, I believe ICANT is not allowed to debate in the Big Bang threads. Is there any way he can be allowed access to just the thread about the new evidence for inflation "Big Bang Found"? I remember one of his biggest issues was the lack of evidence to support the Inflationary theory.
I'd be curious to read what he has to say now that there is actual proof of it.

Without investigating I'm guessing that ICANT's restriction wasn't intended to be permanent. I'll remove any restrictions he has.

I think Theological Creationism and ID we designed for this purpose. And it was built for Faith too, if I recall correctly.
Why are "Theological Creationism" and "Intelligent Design" bunched together on the same thread title? They're clearly different things, from a pro-ID perspective. In effect you are classifying them together by the implication inherent in the title of the thread!
This seems to be a major case of question begging, biased to favour the Darwinian camp.
