For Canadians, if we don't win the gold in hockey it's the end of the world. In any other event we aim for 12th place and are happy with 6th.
What about curling? You probably have the best men's and women's teams in the world right now.
Czechs love winter sports, especially ice hockey - it's just a shame the current team is rubbish. Instead we have to listen to commentators wistfully recalling Nagano over and over again. It's like how the English reminisce about 1966 every time the World Cup rolls around - even though most weren't yet born.
Czech Republic's done well in quite a few events, though. Gold in the women's snowboard cross, a gold and a silver in women's speed skating, and a pretty impressive 3 silvers and 2 bronzes in biathlon. Not bad for a little country of 10 million.

Curling
Further on the Canadian curlers; I'm watching the men's final at the minute, and they're ridiculously good! I saw some of their demolition of China in the semis as well and, whilst I didn't watch any of Canada's games in the round robin, I haven't yet seen them make any mistakes. I'm flummoxed as to how they lost to Sweden - both in this Olympics and in the World Championships. They're like machines!
ABE: Ugly outfits, though.

There are a lot of countries with good curlers though. We have much tougher competition than in hockey so we can't afford to be as arrogant.

It's the same with the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series. Paul Henderson's name is probably better known than the Prime Minister's.

all this talk about curling made me want to look at who invented this game, and no surprise it was the Scots. Iv got a gret idea for a gem, lets throw boulders on the ice.
Probably the same drunk Scot that invented golf.

We are at game time Ringo! Looking from the first 6 minutes that it will be a really good game!

I guess....only a Bronze chance
Just finished watching the Canada v. US Hockey game and I must admit that the US was simply outplayed throughout that game. Well done Canada, you definitely earned your way into the Gold Medal game. The US will have to settle for a chance at bronze against Finland this year, but trust me....four years from now we are coming at you again and we can do it...I swear to goodness!!!
As for the Gold Medal game, I will be cheering for Canada to take the high spot on the podium because I would rather lose to the best in the world than otherwise. Again, Congratulations Canada.

Re: I guess....only a Bronze chance
I accept your congratulations on behalf of Canada. While I agree that Canada dominated that game, it was hard to be confident with just a one goal lead. What a glorious deflection that was though. It was much less stressful than the women's final yesterday. That was intense. Tied it up with 45 seconds left in the game and won in overtime. And they almost lost the game when the official almost caused an empty net goal. It hit the post, but oh how the mild Canadian wrath would have flowed.
And our curlers! Jennifer Jones is a machine and the men are beasts. Wooo!

We have much tougher competition than in hockey
I doubt it. 90% of the worlds curlers live in Canada.
It is a fool proof strategy. If all of the players are on your team then you win.

The Brits - actually the Scots - got a bronze and a silver in curling which is actually a form of housework so next year we're entering the tidying-up event. We'll clean up.

Ouch. Poor team USA. That hockey game did not go well. Pretty surprising considering their last one was a one goal game.

Mega game by TeamFinland and for/by our #8 Teemu Selnne. TeamUSA was way weaker than expected.
Congrats Canada - a truly deserved victory and Gold Medals today!!
