Since we now know that the heavier elements that are so necessary for life are formed when stars explode, and that stars only explode after billions of years of existence, how can creationists justify their belief that all that we see was made 6000 or so years ago?

The larger the star the shorter its lifetime. I think the largest stars have lifetimes as short as 10 or 20 million years. Still, not a point in favor of the creationist viewpoint. I think a Young Earth Creationist would respond that God created all the elements around 6000 years ago. --Percy

Well, Percy's right. You might as well say: "Since we now know that humans and chimpanzees have a common ancestor, and that the genetic differences between them would take millions of years to accumulate how can creationists justify their belief that all that we see was made 6000 or so years ago?" But creationists don't know that. We do, they don't. They think that the human and chimp genomes were made by magic, and the same with the heavier elements.

Their justification is that their beliefs trump evidence, reason, and logic.

Don't give me "facts"!
... how can creationists justify their belief that all that we see was made 6000 or so years ago? Quite easily. It says so in (my interpretation of) my chosen version of the bible so your ungodly satanic atheistic science has to be wrong. QED

Fixed it for you
Their justification delusion is that their beliefs trump evidence, reason, and logic. Fixed it for you. Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge. Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. Heinlein How can I possibly put a new idea into your heads, if I do not first remove your delusions?--Robert A. Heinlein It's not what we don't know that hurts, it's what we know that ain't so--Will Rogers If I am entitled to something, someone else is obliged to pay--Jerry Pournelle If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1

how can creationists justify their belief that all that we see was made 6000 or so years ago? That's easy. First you call the person asking the question a secular materialistic, atheist, liar and then you ask him what a super nova smells like. Next you point out that he could not possibly know how stars age and explode in the early universe because he was not there. To complete the recipe, you read a couple of verses of Genesis into the record. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn't learn something from him. Galileo Galilei If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

Don't take it personally. It's just the sort of question that's a very common theme all over the forums here. Kind of like walking into a bar and asking "what is this beer you speak of?" It may very well be a fine question to those who don't know... but there's going to be a few snickers from those who deal with it all the time. It's just how things go.
